ramps or a jack?
I am just getting started doing my own work on my new fd. Do you guys use ramps or a jack? Are there any situations where i would need a jack and not ramps? If I get a ramps now, am I going to want a jack down the road for something anyway? What do you use and recommend?

I use 4 jacks. I bought some jacks out of junkyard 2nd Gen RX-7's.
I didn't want to put any stress on the car when lifting it.
A 4th jack I bought at an auto parts store also acts a lot like the FD jack (it's a sissors jack with a slotted frame support).

The jack that comes with your car is not designed for anyone to get underneath it. It says so on the jack and in the manual.
To safely work on your car, you should get some good jack stands or a ramp.
As far as I know, the only time you'll need jack stands instead of ramp is when you are working on your brakes or suspension. If you don't plan on doing either one, the ramp will be easier to use for simple maint like oil change. There is a black platic ramp that is pretty good and cheap at about $25 at Pep Boys.

If your ramp is too steep and scraps your car a bit, use one or two 2 x 4's in front of the ramps. So the car when then drive onto the 2X4's first and then onto the ramp. It works!!!

thanks for the tips, I 'll have to try that....
when you jack it up that high, don't forget to take pics, do a little photoshop work and tell your friends you can pop wheelies..

?
how do you get your 3 ton jack under the car???
i always drive up on some bricks just to have the extra 2 inches or so needed to get the jack under the car....then jack it up and use jackstands. i might try that idea with the 2x4s though....dont know if thatll really work to get under there either.
do yall not have an R1 front lip??
and no im not lowered to hell....stock suspension still actually
