hey guys,
i'm new on this forum. i don't have a rx7 yet, but i have been
researching the fd's since 1996. i have been researching 4rotors
lately. i read a site that said having a 4rotor is like having a v-12.
i read the 4rotor came from the 13b idea, and a 4rotor was made by combining the two. i hear it is almost impossible to get an r26b. plus it's not made for the street. what do you guys think.

i don't know where to get the parts from, but im sure together we all could figure out something. look at it this way if the original 4rotor idea came from putting two 13b's together why cant we do something like this, maybe even a 5rotor conversion. i mean rotories do have layers for engines unlike piston engines. maybe im dreaming, but if there is a realistic way im sure together we can get it done. imagine going toe to toe with a lambo or putting that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$car in its place.

uhm... take a look at the pic of a 4 rotor, then take a look at the front end of any year RX7....... ain't gonna happen. a 3 rotor barely fits, and will run you about $30K once you get it installed - a 4 rotor would likely be way more expensive. I've only seen one 4 rotor ever and that was in the Le Mans car, I really highly doubt that would be streetable, but on the other hand, don't they use 4 rotors in buses in Japan?
And, yes, getting an actual 26B would be nearly impossible, but there are places that hand-make 4, 5, and 6 rotor engines (hurley in the UK being one of them). If you're going to try it - good luck, and I hope you have DEEP pockets.
side note: you can have a streetable 3 rotor at 500+ HP... that's equivilent to a V-12, ain't it?

a 4 rotor on an FD. Even just go with "Noramally
Aspirated."
On my 20B install, there is still plenty of room
on the front where the additional rotor should
be sitting. See the picture below.

If the engine is a true 26B then the challenge is
how to find an engine management that can fire
(3 plugs ) * (4 rotor) = 12 firing per complete
eccentric shalf revolution. A V12 only fires
6 times per complete revolution. So this is
similar to a V24 or Straight 24 as far as firing
sequence is concern.
If one can build this from 13B or 12A parts then
the firing sequence would be (2 plugs) * (4 rotor)
is 8 per complete revolution. Maybe using two
engine management that runs a 13B/12A would
probably somewhat of an option.
If eccentric shalf flexing is a concern, maybe
making this from 12A parts would be more preferable. 12A rotor housing are shorter than
13B thus the eccentric shalf would be more shorter.

2 rotor=4 cyl.
3rotor= 6cyl.
4 rotor= 8 or 10 cyl I cant remember o'well

Yeah the guys at Pineapple actually told me about this when I worked at Electromtive. Its the Same Motor that won Lemans. I think they said they either had or knew of 4 motors. I am pretty sure they put it in a 3rd GEN. They told me the guys wife drives it!!

All of the above is true if you only consider
the firing of the"leading plugs." And given
that the 4 rotor = 8 cycl. (I guess the trailing
plugs are really not much since it's only for
cleaner emmission unless you fire all the plugs
together which equates to more power).
If we assume only a single rotor engine. One
complete stroke (intake, compression, exhuast)
turns the eccentric shalf three times. Thus,
you if you have a redline of 8000 RPM, the
rotors are only spinning at 8000/3 = 2666 RPM.

i like to compare them to 3 cylinders. Cause think about it. A 2 rotor TT FD can tango with any jap i6 TT and it has less HP. :-D
