Y'all rock!

Hey,
I just gotta say thanks for having such a great website and all this info available on-line! The nearest club to me is in Mass. and they don't keep up their web site or respond to threads at all, what's a girl to do? (Okay so i live in Vermont, but i am Philly born and bred so figured you'd let me slide. You should be glad i searched the archives before i asked why my convertible wouldn't turn over again, but here's the question.
Last time this happened, my friend helped me get it going with lots of starter fluid, but we pumped the gas a lot and now it sounds like this was exactly the wrong thing to do (he has a 66 Mustang, not exactly rotary savvy, but hey, free help is free help). So question for you: what exactly did i screw up, and what should i watch out for as symptoms of the damage done?
Last question: any other tips for prolonging the life of my engine? I'm at 150k now, and am not relishing the thought of dropping a couple grand to rebuild this. Thanks again!
P.S. Going to try all the flooded engine tricks when i get home, will let you know tomorrow how it went. With only 4 months of convertible weather up here, having it sit for a week is a real hardship!!

Installing a toggle switch on the fuel pump to shut it off when the engine is flooded would be a good start. To prolong the engine, make sure to hit redline whenever you can...it works great.

Hahaha, regular maintenance is key. Search the forum for J-rat, he had a bunch of good pictures of how to install the fuel cut switch.

redline and cutoff

Thanks!
I did redline out of the drive this morning, although i'm really trying to cut down on my speeding tickets, which basically means i have to floor it in 1st, and then i'm going the speed limit. I tell you, Vermont is great for winding bendy country roads with no stop signs, but you don't want to cops in your small town to know you by name (especially when my other car is uninspected As for the duel cut-off switch, both times my car did this flodding thing it was when i moved it from one parking space to another and turned it right off, so hopefully, i won't need the cut-off switch.

Did you not let the car warm up properly? If I went to move my GTU right after I started it up I would flood it, but if I let it get good and warm it would do fine.

I won't even move my car until it has reached the C on the temp gauge but that is just me.

Some people say if you tach the car up to 3 or 4 k, and then turn the key while it's revving, (Even when just moving it over a parking space) it sometimes will keep it from flooding. I do it, and my car hasen't flooded in years.
