Y Pipe OR straight.

So what do you think gives it better power the y pipe or just taking it off and putting it to one side any comments would be great.

They are about the same for power. The single will make you go deaf. A nice Racing Beat dual catback will not, but will still sound real good

Hks is another good one, I have that one (actually a lot of people do). It is louder than the RB but nice and deep, rightously proper sounding if I do say so myself.

Turbocharged2: is your car turbo? if so, then single is DEFINITELY the way to go

If it's NA, what 88IntegraLS said is true.

Yeah man, go double if you want to sound nice and decent. I have an 86 Base with a god damn header and straight pipe all the way back to a cheap *** resonating the hell and back muffler and GOD DAMN is it loud as a mother ******.

Buy a better muffler and you will sound much better.

Single makes the most power, if you run the piping as separate piping as fas as possible, then collect it. Max power for header is 3" straight out from block and 4' of separate piping, collected into no more than 2 7/8" piping..It also weights less.

Buy the race header from Racing Beat and cut the collector off, and have a shop add about 2 more feet to the header and then have them weld the collector back on and run your single..

Its very torquey. 1st gear rolling smash the gas, cars lights tires up. same situation in second almost worse being its gets alittle bit of traction and hooks and throws the car sideways..

The top end is also very nice. right around 125 mph the car seems to hit a turbo feeling boost and rockets itself to 140 plus within seconds...

I'm a little confused...3inch tubing from the ENGINE block..like, the header itself? Thats freaking huge...to a 4 feet of 3inch...to a 2 7/8inch collector? Is that what you are saying..cause that seems over kill, unless you are making 400-500hp...

This is to Roy James..The Apexi Dunk muffler on a straight pipe single sounds very sexy..It isn't loud, doesn't sound ricey..I am running the stock exhaust manifold..It sounds really nice..I have 2.5 inch piping all the way back from the manifold..I want to buy a Racing Beat header as well..Probably will..I also want to put another Dunk on the other side..2 looks better than one..Only thing is the muffler alone cost 200 bucks..But it is worth it in my book..

No what that meant was 3"s of piping going straight out from the engine block. Not 3" ID pipe, stock piping size, is used. I think the size is 2 1/2" for the RB header I used. Collected into no larger than 2 7/8". Most case 2 1/2" is good.

I copied this setup off a SCCA car my friend owns. I was told the header and the piping setup was dyno tested to ensure he was getting max HP with the flatest TQ curve , while retaining the most possible TQ throughout the entire RPM range.

OK, so it would be: 3inches of Straight 2.5 piping going Straight horizontal from the exhaust ports, curve down, then 4feet of dual 2.5 collecting into a 3inch collector, then out the car....right? I am just wondering this because I AM changing the exhaust on my car to a RB header to HKS titanium piping, set up going true duals from the engine and dumping out right before the passenger rear wheel. And I might try that set up if its as good as you say it is.

Its runs pretty good. I can beat street ported S5s by a car or more, with my S4 with same mods, no port

Hey GLHS, do you think you could upload a picture of your exhaust set-up. I am pretty sure I understand what you are saying, but I pic would make it totaly clear. Or even a drawing.

Thanks
-Justin

Sorry never took picts of the setup. I wish I had some. I never knew this would be such a active topic.

I assumed everyone knew this about the exhaust systems...and what works best on Rotary.

True, a lot of people THINK they know what works, but most of the time people can convince themselves of something that's not really truth so they get what they want. I too would like to see a pic of this...even a drawing would suffice.

Guys, I have no way to post a drawing, if I had one.

Let me draw it, and if someone can host that would be cool.

This is a link from a couple days ago...my NA Y-Pipe w/ dual dunks. My Dual N1 will be here Sat. since I'm swapping a TII motor in a couple months and this 2.25 inch is less flow than I'll want, perfect for NA though and LOTS of pics in the link. Whatcha think? I had it jigged near my shop, there is a place that specializes in custom exhausts and IC piping (called "performance custom exhaust") haha nice guys
