Wtd Faq!?!?
Hey guys,
i was reading the f.a.q. today, and found the part where it says "If the seatbelts are broken, don't worry as they are under lifetime warranty by Mazda. The current owner may not know this though and it may be a bargaining chip."
So I called mazda to set up an oppointment to fix mine (bcuz my drivers side is jammed..bad) But the service advisor I talked to said, "I've never heard of that being liftime warranty, but you can come in and let me check it out and see whats wrong w/ it for a diagnostic fee off $70" and I was like"Ok leet me think about it...." So my question is.....Are the seat belts still under "Lifetime Warranty" or not?????
thanks

Not to be a jerk, but this is the third thread about the mouse belts this week. The search function, using the terms "Mouse belt" will reveal many results.
BUT, to answer your question:
YES, MAZDA is obligated to repair your belts for free for the life of the vehicle, regardless of how many times it has been done before.
Several threads have copies of the official letter sent by MAZDA regarding this, should the dealer give you trouble. If this doesn't convince them, call MAZDA USA. Also, you should make sure that there is NO CHARGE for this repair, it is to be FREE.
Two points of advice:
1. Remove your interior plastics covering the mousebelts before you go. They will not be responsible if they break. They WILL break.
2. If one is broken, do your best to damage the other side so that it is doesn't work. This way you only need to take it in one time.

You're being bent over.
Start getting the names of the people you talked to and write them down - you'd be surprised how defensive these people get when you start to do that.
Report these ******** (name of Mazda dealer, location city / state, people you talked to) to Mazda Corp for being stupid cause they don't know their policies.
All the information in here.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Remember the lifetime warranty is only on the USA spec S5 (89-91) coupe belts (otherwise known as Mouse belts).
It is not applicable to the 86-88 models and it is not applicable to the convertibles and it is not applicable to Canadian or other countries models.

I just removed mine and put regular old seat belts for a S4 in mine. You just need to change a couple interior panels to S4 units and remove a couple pieces of mounting tabs from the chassis and theres nothing interfering anymore. Then just bolt the belts in and your done. It's pretty easy. Takes longer to remove the panels than anything since the way they are layered up is a bit of a hassle.
Oh yeah I edited because it also allows you to use the S4 center console storage thing that is much bigger one you remove the S5 retractors in the center. And the seat belts don't choke you to death at 70mph or whatever the mph is that they tighten down at automatically. Thats annoying when you try to reach for something and the belt is so tight you can't. I couldn't even reach the cigarette lighter with the belt locked so I'd have to slow down light the cigarette then speed back up. Annoying if you ask me. Not to mention regular seat belts almost never fail.

That's because FC's don't have Mouse Belts up here in Canadia.

These "mouse belts" were put in so Mazda didn't have to use air bags. There were a couple years that they were required to either have automatic belts or air bags.
So why are the air bags not under a lifetime obligatory repair policy?
