would this cat work?
I was curious if anyone knew the stock cat converter size on an 87 TII. I am looking for a temporary fix just to pass emissions. Does anyone know if this would work

and if I could just use some exhaust clamps to clamp it down just to pass?... I am looking for a cheap fix because this is the last year i need to pass emissions.
thanks

yeah, it would work, but it wouldn't last long (catco cats don't live long with the heat of a rotary). It will need flanges though which means you won't be able to just clamp it in. (run down to the local muffler shop- usually around $25 a side for flanges to be welded on and the correct length).
But you could get a custom fit magnaflow with the right length for around $100.

well if you look at the stock cat, there is actually a baffle plate just inside the input side that helps deflect the heat to help it last longer. Catco cats (and most others) don't have anything like that.

ooo ok... yea like I said this is a very short term fix this is just so I can pass emissions once and then it will come of the car so a 3" dp and mp can go on... its just pissing me off that my CO grams are too high and not allowing me to pass emissions its just that one thing

You can get a magnaflow cat that's 1/4 of that price. So long as the airpump & assocaited pipe is hooked into the 2nd intake on the cat it will pass. I think you can figure out the piping size on their website too, just sort by make/model.

So magnaflow cats will last on a TII? (close to stock)
I've done a couple searches but not absolutely sure yet. I notice the ebay auctions like the one shown, say (EXC. TURBO)

actually Turbos have cooler exhausts than non turbos, so if it works on a Non turbo it will last on a Turbo.
As far as lasting and for how long; that I can not say. The originator of the thread needed a cheap cat to pass emissions. I knew of that cat, so that is why I suggested it.

Well I installed the new cat but there is def an exhaust leak and i couldnt get it to fight perfectly so I picked up some muffler mender from the local hardware store and I aplied it to the small leak on both flanges on the new cat... hopefully that will do the trick but we will see
