Lightbulb Is this worth it?

Hello everyone, first of all I'd like to say this is my first post on this site or about rx7s in general, so forgive me if I get something wrong!

I have a question about a FC I'm looking at and I'm wondering if it is worth it, It is a 1990 vert NA auto. It has a issue with the transmission, and cosmetic issues, it has lien paperwork needing to be done, and it has 1k in back fees, but it does run and drive. The guy wants $3k OBO. I have some knowledge on how to work on the rotary engine somewhat, I will also say that there is another rx7 in my junkyard that I can buy the transmission or engine for cheap. Overall I'm wondering if this is worth it? I can afford the back fees. This would also be my first rx7 ever.

This sounds like a lot of marks against it to be worth it.
Verts command far less than a coupe
Auto hurts the price
$4k with bad transmission?

IDK, it sounds like this persons asking too much, imo.

I just got an S5, non-vert, running great, interior decent, body damage but nothing past dents in panels for 4k. Texas, manual transmission. Your negotiating points are on list how expensive these have gotten lately for parts. IMO way too high for a vert. Only worth being a car to rebuild for fun. Id go for 3k personally. Gonna come down to how your interior is.

Sometimes convenience is worth money too if it's close and doesn't take much of your time.

Id do it, $2200 bucks for a car of any kind that runs in 2024 is a good deal. Its in pretty decent shape!

I'd buy a better car since you'll have $2200 (car) + $1000 (fees) + $??? (trans price). I'd buy a car without issues for $4000.

How many miles? Looks like it could use some love. Guess it depends on what you want to do with it. I do not regret buying my 88 vert in 2004, it was in a minor accident, and only had 60k on it. 20 years later, I still have it with 85k, and drive it more than my 10th Anniversary which I've had since 1999.
