wont start

my battery died i recharged it. my volt meter reads my batterys fully charged. i went to fire up the car and the motor flooded. so then i unpluged the fuel relay and drained the fuel that was in the motor. then i replaced the spark plugs, had someone to give my car a jump and now it tries to start up but fails to do so. it sounds like its almost there but just wont finish starting. I dont understand whats wrong. it was running almost perfectly except for not idleing below a grand. I just had it running three days ago and yet yesterday when i went to start it, it wouldnt fire up. Plz help me !

did you just get this car? (if so) have you done a full tune-up (can be found in the FAQ section at the top of the thread page) and checked for any vacuum leaks? It sounds to me that you need to fully charge your battery again, and if you do get it running again try spraying some ether/ starter fluid around all of your vac lines to see if the idle revs up... if it does then you have found the leak. Our cars are old and have many brittle parts, i'm assuming that yours was fortunate enough to spend most of it's life down south where there's no snow/ salt to corrode parts and the body at that. Goodluck man, keep us posted. By the way, what's the year and model?

silly question..Is the Air flow meter plugged in(AFM)?..it will start and die if it is Not plugged in..Check the connector there. Also a lot of Problems arise from the fuel filter being full of Junk from the tank..Try a replacement and see what happens...flooding usually from Leaky Fuel injectors.May look into getting them cleaned Professionally also if the Flooding problem persists.

It's flooded. Put an ounce of oil or two into each leading spark plug hole to build up compression and then push start it with a fully charged battery.

Make sure you have the plug leads on the right plug.

dude there is another little bugger to check and its your fuel pressure regulater, it sits on the fuel rail diagonal left of looking at the TPS. Has a vacuum tube in and the fuel line in as well. Cleaning the plugs will do only so much for an S4(if you have an S4) with miles on it. New sets work great except for the price.

its an 87 GXL. It does have a new tune up. it has a new fuel pump and fuel filter internal and external. Brand new fuel injecters and i have found no vacum leaks. Air flow sensor is working fine and the alternator is working great. Just wondering but how would I check the fuel pressure regulater? Bought car on christmas of 05 for 400 bucks and i am officially the second owner. it has a 128k miles but I have not drove it off my street. Still working on making it street legal.

You arent pressing the gas pedal are you?

When my car just would NOT start, I would try and start it and you can hear the engine speed up when its too flooded, then I unplugged the fuel pump relay and it would try and start beut wouldnt, just kept doing it and eventually it started. Killed the starter though. Or you ould have someone pull it up a hill in neutral then roll it down the hill and try to start it.

i know everyone keeps saying that i could have leaky injectors, problem is they are new...could they have been faulty when i bought them? i pulled my spark plugs back out and they r screwed, gotta buy new ones again (6th time in a year). if its not the injectors causing it to flood...what else could it be? i can't figure it out...i mean i know that it floods easily cause its a rotary motor but its not posed to flood this easily...is it? another question...when the car is running fine, how long should the key be turned over be4 it actualy fires up? for me,i turn the key over wait about 5-8 seconds stop and then turn it over agin and after about another 5-8 seconds it finaly starts up. shoult it take that long,or shoult start easier? i think that could be part of why it floods so easily. i bought my car christmas night of 05,the car had been sitting for about 2 and a half years (in a garage never running) until i bought it.i have restored pretty much everything (just trying to get it street legal) and im still encountering these problems. i have almost $1,342.44 invested (not counting price of the car) and yet i havn't even driven it off of my dirt road yet. sinceing that it sat for that long, could there be some small things that a typical mechanic wouldn't think about checking? im really confused at this point,it seems like everytime i get it running good, something else goes wrong. think that could have something to do with not really being drove everyday? i get my income tax $$$ back soon and i plan on legalizing it,but im afraid if i do then it goin to be broke down with insurince all the time like it is now without the extra $ being paid...please help me the best u can....
