Wont go to redline in Neutral.

If i try to rev the car to redline in neutral it will only go to like 6 or 6.5k rpms and like cut out and make a loud gargling noise.... wat would cause this, its like the same sound and feel as when i hit fuel cut going down the road, but you can hit fuel cut in neutral right?

88 TII

Thanx

o other than that and hitting fuel cut, the car runs perfect, 100 psi per rotor, easy to start and such just like its losing ignition at higher rpms...

ya know, I have never tried redlining from neutral.
Does it redline in gear?
Fuel cut should only apear at like 8psi you probably arn't making much, if any, boost in N.

No i wont go to redline in gear because i hit fuel cut, also i think maybe the ignition is messed up because it very slow to rev below like 2500 rpms but once it gets there it perks right up and revs very nice.....

Anymore help...

How well tuned up is it right now? Plugs, timing, idle mixture etc. Also how is your fuel filter?
Thats all i got for right now.

Oh wait, do you have access to a FCD? if so try it (gently) and see if it is the same.

all is well tuned i have new plugs wires and all the such, i dont have a new fuel filter and havent checked the timing. I guess the idle mixture is right cause i idle rock solid at 750.

I redline my car in gear almost every time I drive it. Is that just plain stupid too?

just another technical myth, no one has ever substantiated the claims but people claim it is harder on the bearings since the engine has no load on it, which i think is a load of BS.. it is easier on the engine because there is no load on it in my opinion.

Thats wat i was thinking, but if my car had an incorrect fuel mixture or timing was off would it make for it not to go to redline????

if the timing was severely retarded, yes, it wouldn't have much power all around. if it is severely lean the RPMs will buck/stutter once it starts to lean out enough, if it is severely rich then you would see grey smoke out the tailpipe and smell raw fuel.

I'm in the same basket as healing, I don't readline, but almost everytime i drive, i get on it once or twice. i thought that helped get rid of carbon build-up, or is that bs?

yeah you want to take them to higher rpms quite often to clear carbon from the motor and above 3800 rpms so the secondaries will come on along with other stuff, because if you never do this equipment will get stuck....

does anyone have a link or thread in regards to checking timing on a s4 TII??
