Without mentioning names, what does our NEWEST moderator think of this suggestion?
Ted,
As there seems to be a never ending amount of repeat questions about this or that... could we not have a sticky that has links to the most asked questions. We could have it seperated into different catetgories, and under each category, links to some of the better threads about that particular subject.
This would be of benefit to all, so instead of people saying 'use the search button', we could just refer them to the Sticky. Sometimes it is hard for someone to know exactly what to search for, so they could go through the sticky, and if they still don't find what they are after, at least they will have some idea of what to look for.
I know this would be a bit of work to set it up, but I think it would be very handy. When more useful threads come up, they can be added to the Sticky.
It's just an idea.

That would mean subdividing the Archive or at least the 2G section into more sections?
I don't think the owners would like that.
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a great idea, but it comes down to practicallity.  If we subdivide everything into it's minute detail, then we'd get an overwhelming huge forum sections which eats up a lot of disk space.
Someone should make an FC NA site like mine...*hint hint*

Since every question ever asked has already been answered one time or another on this forum, what would people talk about if they didnt have to ask anything?
** note this reply has been takin from a post from a long... long time ago.

I say we vote on decisions that affect the 2G forum. Just a thought. Put a pole up in the morning and say a day or two later, put the results into effect.

I don't think he means sub divide.. just make a sticky with links on it. for exaple the sticky post could look like this
"TB mod"
link to thread
link to different thread
"turbo an N/A"
link
link
etc.
so instead of seaching for "tb mod" you can look at the sticky and find the best / most usefull posts about it, instead of seaching through every thread with that word in it.
it would just be a "links" sticky

its called a F.A.Q. people!!! how hard is that? and it would NOT take a lot of space, it would only be links and a little info on each subject...you dont have to sub-divide anything just add it to the one we have already...if nobody can do this, i could/would, if the owner would let me, piece of cake!

Observation... I see nothing wrong in suggesting folks first "search". However, the search function is really, really global no matter how you try to narrow it. This would be especially true for folks not particularly astute in this forum's search. I frequently see members saying they have tried but end up with a bazillion posts/threads that may not be particularly helpful and get frustrated, thus the repeats on answered questions.
I bet a sticky which provides concise instructions on the best ways to enter a search might eliminate the need for a FAQ sort of link.
Just a thought... Jerry

I already think there's too many stickies, but that's not really a big deal, just takes more scrolling. (EDIT - nevermind, it seems some of them are gone now! )
How about adding most of the stickies to the archives, adding a lot of the really good threads to the archives, and one BIG sticky at the top that says "Hey at least glance over the archives first, what you're looking for might be in there."
Also, the list of questions that come up all the time is fairly short - auxiliary ports, turbo N/A, flames, etc.
What I'd really like to see is people be more descriptive in the thread title, i.e. instead of just "help," the topic should say "help, how do i adjust TPS."

Exactly, just have one sticky at the top. It should have one post with a list of topics and links:
Auxiliary Port Activation
Link to archive
Throttle Sensor Adjustment
Link to Archive
ETC.....
Make the title of the sticky attractive so that new members are more likely to click and look through the archives instead of going straight to a question that is already archived and answered in great detail.
It's not that I don't mind seeing questions asked over and over. It's just that if you take a well thought out answer to a good question, archive it, and have that as a reference for that question from now on, people are going to stay much MORE INFORMED, and LESS MISINFORMED.
The archives is a wonderful feature, it's where I learned about the ECU test connector that someone wired up which made my life a lot easier when diagnosing some problems. That ECU test connector is also VERY educational.

I'm glad this subject had some interest... and yes it would basically be a FAQ. I think maybe Ted misunderstood what I meant (there is certainly no need to divide or create any forums), we just need a 'sticky' that has links to very useful threads from the past. Now as to what threads were good or not, I guess that would be up to the technical gurus.
If this was to proceed, and certain threads were chosen, I think it would be a good idea to go through them and eliminate some of the useless posts. Yes, I'm well aware of Freedom of Speech, blah, blah, blah, but we don't want people being discouraged by having to read endless posts that have nothing to do with the subject.
I guess it's now up to the Mods, as to whether or not they want to do this.

Ah, I figured what you were talking about...
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to take care of that, but it's a good idea.
Basically, one has to peruse the Archives section to find all the links - this takes time.  Personally, I think there is too much stuff in the archives - the old stuff gets lost!  If I get the time, I might go in there and start deleting replies that don't help the thread (i.e. - "that's a good idea" replies) and start merging threads; I think the shear number of archive posts gets intimidating.
I've got my three projects still yet, and managed to pick up trying to get one '87 Turbo II running (almost done!) and another possible NA rebuild lined up right now.  Crap I'm busy!

I'm sure there's some people on here (no lives!!!) that wouldn't mind doing some helpful work for the board... it doesn't require mod capabilties to search for archived topics on certain commonly found RX-7 problems.
Heck I wouldn't mind doing something like this for a little bit.
