Unhappy Wiring Problem

So I bought a bunch of Neon Lights for under my interior, Ricey yes, but it looks great so whatever. Anyways, I wanted to wire them up to a switch on my interior So i cut the 10v addapter they came with off. My problem is the now refuse to work.

I placed the Pos and Neg wires right to my battery terminals and got nothing at all, I thought it could be the lights so I rewired the adapter back up that they came with and plugged them into the cigarette lighter and they work just fine! So I know it's not the lights themselves, I just can't figure out why I can't get them to come on without the 10v addapter!

Any Suggestions?

Did you put the wrong wire on the wrong part of your battery?

Who says the adaptor has to get it's power from the cig lighter?

Run a wire from the adaptor to your bat and the other to ground. Then wrap the **** out of the adaptor with electrical tape (or whatever) and lay it in somewhere out of sight. Wire your switch to one of the new lengths of wire. It may be ghetto, but at least no one will be able to see it.

Hey man, they make this thing you can get at the auto parts store, its like a female cig adaptor with two wires and two aligator lookin' clips. You can get that or somethign similar and just cut the clips off, and put wires from that to the battery. that way you can leave the adaptor on (if you said it was a 10V adaptor then when they have 12-13v from a car they may not work, possibly a breaker type deal in them or something) and also have it wired to a switch at the same time.

Please excuse any grammar mistakes. im kinda

The 10 Volt adapter switchs the the DC current of the car to AC that the neons need to operate.

Well I guess I'll go with AMUR'S idea if i have to but i'd rather just get rid of the adapter all together. I also don't have a cigarette lighter in my car, i took it out and replaced it with a switch so I can't even plug the adapter in my car.

I honestly can't see why the light won't come on, isn't it kinda a basic theory, when I put the pos. and neg. wires to the battery why wouldn't the damn thing go on!?

If the neons indeed need AC power to operate then DC power would not do **** for them. bottom line, why not to get a female cig lighter adaptor and plug the adaptor you have in, and then just hard wire that on a switch? seems so logical and easy to me
