wipers not returning (not common?)
Hey guys,
On my 91 turbo I have this issue where the wipers don't return to their resting position. Occasionally it remembers how to properly work but most of the time I need to hold and release the **** at the right time.
I have done the common repair with the relay replacements but that did not cure the issue.
I have studied the schematics as far as I'm able to understand and could not figure out where the issue could be.
I have pulled the motor and could not find a problem.
Anyone got a suggestion?
Google lead me to nothing unfortunately

It's usually one of the relays in the switch that cause this problem, but you mentioned that you replaced them. I had the same problem a few years ago in addition to my wipers only working at one speed. I replaced the three relays (S5 w/ rear wiper) and all the electrolytic capacitors and my switch worked like new. One of the original relays was no longer available, but there was a substitute relay available. The substitute relay was a sealed relay (compared to the original, which was not) and was about 1-2 mm taller, which required some trimming of the cover. Also, the electrolytic capacitors typically have a lifespan of about 10 years, depending on operating conditions.
There was a tread awhile back where somebody had same problem as you and apparently it had something to do with a switch in the motor. I don't think this is a common problem. I still using my original wiper motor (both front and rear) that came with the car when I bought it new in April 1990.

Yea I had the motor apart and couldn't find anything odd.
Can't remember if I replaced the capacitors though. It has been a while a did that and the car is parked for over a year now lol (not because of this)
