Wiper Switch

I have a stock 88 n/a with about 180 000k on it...
I was wondering if the wiper switches in these were prone to problems. What I'm finding is that the wipers do not go back to their rest position if turned off, you have to sort of time when you turn them off so that they'll sit properly. Also the intermittent setting just seems to raise them about 1/3 of the way up the glass and they just sit there.
I've filled with the adjuster on the side of the switch but that hasn't seemed to help
Has anyone experienced this?? or do I just need to go out and buy a new switch
Thanx

I just order a rebuilt one from Icemark, My delays stopped working and sometime they wouldnt go back to they resting place!! replace it, thats a sign of it going soon. You dont wanna get stuck with no wipers in the middle of a rain storm on the interstate do you?

We were told that this is due to the wiper motor and not the switch. We haven't replaced the motor yet (still in box).

no the relays in the switches go and the welding corroads thats why they stop working, I replaced my once with one from Mazda recycling and it started doing the samething 4 months later. Trust me its the switch. Been there done that!! The one from Mazda recycling cost me 125 I paid 88 plus shipping from Ice and its rebuilt with new realys and stuff. Just installed it today and it work incredible again!!

If you check out the Frequently Asked Questions, it talks about the infamous wiper switch problem. Its most likely the switch although many diagnose it as the motor.

We've got an 86 GXL parts car. Do you think that the switch is the same?

yea but how many miles do you have on that one, like I say above I went through 2 switches that TWO. Now I have a rebuilt one and wont come across that problem with the switch anymore. Eventually your gonna have to replace that one off the 86 7 too. Mys well do it right the first time, but that my two cent. Do what you want, but leat you know its the switch now!!

my wiper wont stop moving they just keep on working.
so i hand to that out the fuse in order for it to stop.
Does this mean i need to replace it or rebuilt it which ever?

Yep, that is a classic example of one or more of the three relays internally failing.
