Windshield wiper removal?

The arms on my Windshield wiper arms on my 7 have a little surface rust on them so I decided to remove them and refinish them. So I pulled the nut holding them on and I tried to remove the arm from the bolt that held them, but they wouldn’t come loose.

-so I was wondering if there is some special trick or another nut that I must remove to get the arms off.

Tanks
Tad

I would go with a little wiggling and WD-40. I'm doing the same thing today. God bless the Dremel.

The arm is spring loaded onto the windshield.
It would help to bend the arm backwards and then remove it.

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS CAUSE THE END MIGHT SPRING BACK SUDDENLY, HIT THE GLASS, AND CRACK IT!

The connection is splined, so you need to wiggle it a little to get it loose.

isn’t that the truth, me and Mr. Dremel spent some hours together on my seat rails.

Isn’t there a way to detach the spring easily to make the disassembly a little safer?

Removing the spring is not neccessary. Just follow these steps.

1. With the nut still on (does not have to be tight), bend the wiper arm so it is all the way away from car (like you are about to wash your window).

2. Remove nut.

3. Pull the wiper arm STRAIGHT off the stud, holding the arm by the lower section (the end closest to the stud, the short section).

Paint, let dry, then reverse process.

When I refinished my wipers I used some stuff called "rubberize-it" or someting. Gives hte same finish as they were before. Looks new when done.

I was lazy. Bought two arms form Mazda. That was about 5 years ago. Recall paying about 40.00 each

I like this idea. I was going to use some high-temp black spray paint, but I think it didn't last so long on my parents' ride.

I recently used rustoleum rust paint in i believe semi-gloss black and it looks the same as the day i did it. It also lasted through a summer of 40degC+ heat and a very dusty driveway.

The "Hard Nosed Paints" by http://www.por-15.com are perfect for this application. They last forever.

If the wiper arm is very stuck, then most auto parts stores sell a small wiper arm puller to help. It looks like a gear puller, but smaller.
