Is window tint worth it?

I have no A/C in my 91 Coupe and window tint is going to run me $175. I'm considering going 5% all around. I was just curious if this would even make a drastic difference on the interiors temperature after being left in the sun during the day, or for a few hours when grocery shopping, etc. I have my windows down 99% of the time since we're in the 30's celcius or high 80's Fahrenheit and I end up at my destination with sweaty pits and my back is sweaty, even after showering -.-'. If I get it that dark all around I heard that because our hatches are at an angle it would be incredibly difficult to see out the back at night and the sides as well. I had tint on my 97 Civic before this car, 5% on the back window and 15-25%(I can't remmeber) on the sides, so I'm used to not being able to see out very well, especially in the winter, but that car had A/C.

So would spending $175 dollars make that much a difference to the point where I could drive my car in 80-90 degree weather without having to roll my windows down or get in my car after 1-3 hours without having to let the heat escape the car. Otherwise I'd buy some new/used speakers since mine need to be replaced.

no the tint could protect your interior from u.v. rays, and as you know sun glare on your eyes but windows up traps heat no matter what maybe a little more do to the tint being darker i say replace the ac buddy, i know its a little pricy but tint it any way always looks better.

oh yeah if tinted undershade you should be better off and windows cracked.......

No. It will still be blazing hot.

Having 5% tint all around, rolling like a gangstaaaaah will also attract the PO-lice as well (check your state's laws).

Already aware it's completely illegal, but never had problems before. I like the fact nobody can see me while driving and I already have been stopped 5-6 times by police for speeding and such, never had a problem with my illegal tint. I always have the window rolled down before they arrive to my car.

Got it. It still wont help with the heat.

If I were a cop... I'd pull you over and give you the option to take it off with a blade on the spot, or give you a ticket.

But thats why I'm not a cop.

Get some speakers. With that much money, you could get some low end components.

I know a lot of people think it's a poser/ganster thing to have it blacked out, that's why I would also consider 15-25% on sides and 5% on hatch. But then that would basically just be for looks.

Thanks for everything, though. I'm going to use the money to upgrade my speakers instead!

EDIT: Yea, I don't need high end components, just some basic Infinity References or something. My father will do all the installation.

Here's a trick that a family member of mine uses in order to keep his windows at 5% all around. Locate an eye doctor, family one or whatever, and with a little "persuasion", get him to produce a letter stating that you are in fact light sensitive, requiring the use of low percentage tint. Keep that letter for reproduction in the event you're ever pulled over. The guy I'm talking about has been pulled over three times for it, and all three times he's gotten out of it free and clear.

If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying

The first thing I always do when I get a vehicle is tint the windows. It keeps it cooler when it's sitting in the sun and helps with sun fading the interior and people can't see in. I used to put 5% on the rear but I have gotten tired of having to roll the side windows down to see behind me. It will not allow you to ride with the windows up with no ac.

So basically it's a waste of money since I'll still have to roll down the windows in any weather mildly warm and it'll make it difficult to see out of, LOL.

Its definitely more cosmetic than functional; lets put it that way. It doesn't matter if you have .1% tint... if its 90 degrees outside, your windows aren't the only thing that makes you car hot inside. It might take a few extra minutes to get to 150 inside... but it'll get there.

Especially at $175. If I wanted to spend that much on my car cosmetically I'd buy an oem spoiler or front lip.

Just about a week ago I got pulled over for 47% sides here in Iowa, law says 75% IIRC, now I always roll em down EVERY time I see a black and white whether I'm on the interstate or in town.

Also, to comment on your speaker choice, I've got some Infinity 4032cf's installed in the dash on the stock amp and they sound great, I know they'll sound better when I get a nice 4 channel amp. I've got a pair of 6032cf's to go in eventually.

Newer cars have a green tint to lower temp inside the car.

The prius goes further with a solar powered electric fan that runs when temp rise inside while parked.

I was thinking just a fan attached to my dash and plugged into the cigarette lighter would help, aha. But I can't seem to find one :S Even Ebay only had a few.

From what I can see, there isn't a unit at all. Looks like everything was taken out. I don't have hundreds or near thousand dollars to replace it.

Tint will help but nothing drastic since you have no AC. Get a windshield shade instead. Custom fit for the 2nd gen.

The only tint proven to lower interior temp is the ceramic stuff but that stuff is pricey. But really any car left in the sun will bake.

My dad took my car out for a drive to his buddies house and he ended up calling me and made me an appointment and is paying for it to be done. So looks like I'm going to get tint and new speakers! Pretty excited.

a friend and myself both owned white vehicles, his was pearl, mine was just a gloss. He has some heavy tints, and mine just had the factory uv protection. His car would always be a lot more comfortable to hop into then mine when parked side by side. Enjoy the tints.

Window tint does nothing for UV protection. Your car already came with superior UV protection: glass. Don't believe me? Set a pair of photochromatic sunglasses on the seat in direct sunlight with the windows up and they will never get dark.

When I tinted my last car, with 5% on rear and 15% on front, I noticed a huge difference in interior temperature. The car would still get hot after sitting in the sun for 8 hours, but while driving, rolling up the windows made a huge difference.
