Window switch=pain in the ***!

I recently disasembled my driverside window switch to try and fix the passengerside toggle switch on it. When I got the switch apart, it was fairely easy to clean, but putting it back together was a pain. Much worse than the passenger side switch cluster. Just letting you know that you may need 2 people to do it and that it requires about 30 minutes to do.

Hmmm only takes me about 5 minutes...

Maybe 15-20 minutes if you pull the door panel to get at the tabs to release the switch to pull it out of the door.

Where did you run into trouble???

Is your car stripped already. In other words do you have the upholstry removed?

The problem I ran into with the switch was replacing the two plastic pieces that slide across the metal contacts. 2 of these pieces have to be placed inside the track with a small metal ball underneath it that rests on a spring. Once you've managed to get these steadied, you then must slide them into the slots on the plastic box that seals that part of the unit. I understand this would be much easier to understand if there were pics, but unfortunately i have no pictures. This setup was found in my S5 driverside door switches but not the passenger. I have taken apart both S4 and S5 passenger switches before and they are considerably easier. A 5 minute job including removal, cleaning and reinstallation.

ah, I see, yeah I wouldn't think anyone would ever try and rebuild one of those S5 switches anymore.

Just throw it away and use S4 switches. Night and day better switches.

I took my S4 switches apart and cleaned them up real good. I even burnished the contact points, but in less than six months they started going intermittent again. Do I need to do the relay trick or what? If there's too much current at the switch they seem to invariably get carboned up. Or is it that I need to seal the switches after I clean them?

I cleaned the switches , both sides, on my 90 vert, and what was the big deal? Got milk? Well, I got pictures, not real clear, but it isn't that difficult. Let me find them, and I will post them up if anyone is still interested.

PEACE THE DOG
