Win or Fail

Ok, you have to read this,

I just bought a S4 N/A, A/T engine from a friend
and I paid $150 and I have to say it was clean and nice all around,
My friend and I both looked it up and found out that it was rebuilt about 10yrs ago. VIN#+internet= great information
the previous owner "not my friend" told us both he had it rebuilt
but he never could get it started so it sat for like 10+years, its true I never saw the car move until my friend bought it. was brand new on the inside and out.
"we both later found out that the harness was thrashed"

So here is the main point I started to tear it down for porting and after I took off the exhaust manifold and what do I find as I look at the rear rotor but 2 cracked and missing Apex seals OH BOY!
I have been fucked out of $150,

so I have to say this even though the Engine itself is **** the parts on it were new
1. new water pump and housing
2. new alternator
3. new clean maniflod/tps/throttle body...etc..
4. clean and newish looking fuel injectors. lol
5. brand new CAS I mean I saw my friend buy it offline, big $$$
6. and a great 4 speed auto tranny, lol with a good ol' torn up wiring harness

I want oppinions and suggestions should I pay the bastard the last $70? I owe him
or call it even with the new parts?

Or the funnier solution, take the Engine and dump it on his front lawn and give him the finger while I do it?

You're thinking of screwing a friend out of $70 on a $150 parts car deal?

dude, you got a car for $150....

Just the fact you are bitching about the remaining $70 makes you character questionable.

You could take the logicon out and sell it for more than what you paid for the car.

I think he only bought the engine not the whole car, but agreed, you would screw a "friend" for $70, glad we arent friends.

Even then, $150 ain't bad for a blown motor. ****, you have Tiger Japanese imports selling engines worse off for 10X that price.

Dude, don't **** your friend. Spec the useable parts out and rebuild it and be glad you got a core for $150.

This is the short version of your 'situation"
..you BOUGHT the ****..
you never Paid it off..(still owe 70 bucks)
Now you wanna **** the guy out of his Money and Return it?
..IT IS AN AS-IS SALE....Pay the man!
....you know that you can get your "money Back" by Selling Parts off the Engine.Do not make it a Pissing contest by Testing your Friendship.you will Lose a Friend,,for What??a damn car part??
You knew that the engine had not been started in 10 years,so you have Nobody to blame but yourself,
Be smarter next time and Take someone who Knows What they are Buying...Good luck.

You paid $150 for an engine that you knew didn't work, and you are upset that not everything is perfect? Are you on crack, or just looking for a lame excuse to screw the guy out of $70? Yes, I think you should give the parts back to the seller for a full refund of your $80, and tell him that I will give him $300 for the engine parts (less crappy AT transmission) and pay for the shipping. You don't deserve that engine.

Oh, and to answer the question, you definitely Fail.

And why exactly did I have to read this thread?

You bought a car that hadn't run in 10yrs and were surprised that it wasn't 100%? No less, you actually felt entitled to a pristine RX7 for $150?

So now you're all like this:

Sell off the good parts and take the rest to the scrap metal yard, you'll still come out ahead.

I'd say you got a killer deal for all those supposedly new parts and a core engine .

YOU

You should go smash your face into a wall. You bought the damn thing, go pay for it. You're telling me that you didn't bring a breaker bar with a 19mm socket so you could maybe... turn it over? You didn't bring a 13/16" spark plug socket and a flashlight to see the apex seals through the leading spark plug holes?

I bought a TII drivetrain for $400 from a dude who was doing an LS1 swap. He told me such great things about it, about how it ran great, pulled strong, didn't smoke, etc. Of course I wanted to believe him, but no. I even brought a good charged battery, a remote starter, and a compression gauge so that I could do a compression check on it WITH THE ENGINE OUT OF THE CAR!!! Everything checked out, although when I got it home, I found the TID was cracked, the twin scroll system was F'd, and numerous other things. I was skeptical of whether his claims of it being a good engine were true. I was lucky, seeing as I got everything from the driveshaft forward for $400, and it was good. Those deals are really rare.

Anyways, an engine that's been sitting for 10 years is going to be BOUND UP!! It's called rust... corrosion!

If what you're saying is true, then you bought more than your money's worth of parts. Go find a good keg for cheap and swap the goods.

Then smash your face into a wall for being stoopid.

Ok problem solved
oh and sorry I would have put more details in the first thread but I had little time to be on the computer last night.

my friend read this thread and laughed "he laughed said he would do the same"
but I called him and he is pissed about the engine, not at me
he came over and looked at it and said holy **** how does it have one busted seal and one that is completely missing. lol
but the fact that it is rebuilt but it is blown pissed him off
he said that he would pay me back the money cause he said that we both did not know
it was blown
but I told him I would pay him anyway cause of the new parts on that came with it
although he does agree with me that I should not have to pay him cause he
would do the same
but in all he said he would give me his other core engine for free if the
any of the housings have damage cause in reality he owes me like $500

I was not complaining
I just wanted to know if the parts on it were worth the $500+ that he owes me I think it was and so does my other friends

and yes he scraped the car and kept the engine cause of problems with his landlord

and to answer AGreen me and him and at least 4 people checked the seals through the spark plug holes and they were fine that is why I bought it

but to lose 2 seals in a month over corrosion in a heated garage and covered is beyond me and him
any ideas why?

Good you worked it out. Not paying is never a good idea because it only reflects back on you. Since he's your friend you had the luxury of talking it out. Remember that in the future.

It was a blown *** engine before it was pulled. Someone was lied to, be it you or him.

Like Felix said, turn it over and hear 6 chugs. If you didn't do that... fail.

Yes I must agree it is a Fail for the block anyway

but he pulled it out before I could do a compression test
I wanted to but he went and did it a day earlier that is when me and his/my friends looked into the spark plug holes and saw that the seals were fine

but weather and tempurature can work its way into anything so it goes to show you
nothing can last forever

but I got some good parts for the money so that I think is a win

and yes I will pay him he needs the money and I need a project, lol

It's due to not having oil in the housings and turning over the motor, that has been sitting 10 years... But **** happens.

I am not reading that mess.

You should start working. I think with more money in your pocket, you will realize that friendship is worth a lot more than 70 dollars.

Better yet, sell everything and apply for financial aid and go away to school full time.

On campus you will quickly realize that a get over mentality gets you nowhere......Being labled as "that scumbag" will ultimately force you to change socially.

Now two things will happen after graduation....you would have matured due to hopefully developing a respect for friendship, and will (hopefully despite the economy) land a better job, so 70 dollars will no longer be worth potentially ending a friendship.

Hopefully you are 15. I had to google alucard...and it is some anime thing....so you probably are.

Still, take all of my advice.

Still could have removed both lower plugs and turned the main pulley with breaker bar to perform a poor mans compression test....

1. I am not 15 I am 21
2. let explain my screen name dawicka2
for if in the FUTURE people might ask.
Keep in mind that I am not picking a fight or trying to start a argument thread that is not why I get on here.
It has something to do with the fact that my best friend Matt shot himself in the head when he was 15 and I 16 with a .45 Sig Sauer cause people like you told him he was a idiot and that without school, life would be crap and he would be crap I would not have brought this up if you had not mentioned my lack of education+my screen name.
and the reason my name is alucard is cause he used that as a screen name for video games when we played online together.
all apologies dewicka2 if I insulted you and/or wasted your time and

3.yes I am in school for advanced astrology... I like space

back to the matter at hand,

to answer 2slow4stock yes it always had oil and good compression up until we pulled it out Like I always say weather is a bitch and always finds it way into ****, and **** does happen, lol

poor mans compression test, huh? I thought about it, and the next day the engine was on
my lawn next to my house, lol
but there is some good news the housings are fine, so its time for a rebuild
almost no wear on the housings
so I will put up the rebuild thread in the next few weeks once I get paid
