I have 225/50/15's on my 91 with the 15"x6.5" convertible rims. So it should work for you.

That will be real close on the rim width. I wouldnt be surprised if its too wide for the rim.

the rear has Toyo's Proxy 255/50/16 and fit just fine and doesnt stick out or anything
and looks bad ***
I also had 225/50 on the stock GXL rims and fit fine

205's on a 6" rim? That's a smidgen wide. But 225's? Time to get wider wheels. Not having tires matched to the wheels is not very good for the tire, and isn't so good for handling. More contact patch on the road is a good thing, but only if the wheel is up to it. 225's are happy on 8" rims.

Stock tire size is 205/60R15. That is on all 15X6 stock wheels.

205/60R15 is stock on the 15x6. I'm a bonehead, I should have noticed that. Sure, Mazda did it and all, but I still don't like it. But 225's on a 6" wheel? That's way too much. The 16x7 on mine came with 205/55R16. Same 205, but on a wheel that matches it. I have 225/50R16 on my car now, but they're on 16x8 wheels (Skyline GT-R wheels )
Having more sidewall lets them get away with it, but it still isn't the best solution. Of course getting wider tires and staying with stock wheel sizes for drag racing is another point altogether. I'm more of a twisty road type of guy.
