Will s4 engine bolt into an s5 car
I hate to post this without looking too much into the search feature, but I came across an engine that is supposed to be good out of an 87. So it is an S4 as I understand. My 90 that has a bad motor is an S5. So I can get this s4 motor cheap. What would I have to do to make it work with my 1990? I need to know ASAP or the guy may crush the car before I find out. Thanks in advance.

Cross series swaps are usually discouraged because it takes a lot more than just dropping the same series motor in your car and plugging everything in.
I have a s4 TII with a s5 TII engine and after all I went through I just decided to shell out for a Haltech Sprint RE. $990 new but some guys here who are dealers will give you a better price
But,
There's 3 routes:
1st way is to get a standalone ecu.
2nd is to put the s4 engine in your s5 but keep your s5 ecu, wiring harness and all the electronic stuff from your s5 and swap them to your s4 engine so everything plugs in electrically.
3rd way is to take the body harness plug from under the passenger floorboard that connects to the ECU from the harness under the dash from the s4 and get it spliced where your s5 ecu plug was. FEM plugs and some others need to be spliced in also.

For the same price, you could buy a roller shell that's a s4 and put the engine in and have another car.
Unless you were to just swap the electronics like I mentioned, that would be cheapest.

Buy the engine regardless. SOMEONE will make use of it.

The s4 to s5 swap appears to not be an option because the front plate if I recall is the one that has the coolant port broken off on my current engine. I guess this may have to go on the back burner until I hit the lottery......
