The vast Majority of FC's never came with one and get by fine everyday.
If you have hopped up HP and you are constantly breaking loose just one wheel in take off/accellerating conditions, or planing on doing track racing, then think about a LSD.
Otherwise, whats the point???

you can get the torsen lsd out of a 94 and up miata. you just need to unbolt the ring gear from the miata torsen and put the rx-7 ring gear on the miata differential. easy peasy lemon squeezy

as my car is stock now, i dont need an lsd, but i like to be prepared and get things before i really need them. my goal is goin to be at a streetable easy to get 300hp or so, lsd would help, id like to take it out to the track too, thats why i bought an rx7. like im planing on gettin a koyo radiator and a good e-fan, even though my stock ones are good for now. just for the future.
awesome thanx mac dad6, ill start to look for those miata lsds.

your GXL should have LSD. Jack up the rear and rotate the tire on one side. If the other side turns in the same direction than you have LSD.
If for some reason you don't have LSD it will be cheaper and stronger to buy another FC differential with LSD in it. THe '86-88 style S4 differentials are clutch style meaning they can rebuilt and built up to handle more power. The '89-91 are a cone style LSD that when they break... a new LSD unit is needed ($600+ labor).
N/A LSD diffs are 7" ring gear. T2 LSD diffs are 8" ring gear and strongest setup you can put out back of your FC as far as factory goes. T2 diffs require T2 halfshafts *note*.
The Miata route would require a dial indicator to get the the pinion and ring gear to line up properly if you were to do it yourself IMO. Not doing so would make for big problems quickly (gears eating each other). Plus I doubt it would be a true bolt in.
I have been pushing over 350hp and 400ft/lbs tq thru a 100K mile+ T2 '87 rear end for over 20K miles with no problems at all. Best $200 I spent on the car. This is launching on Nittos on the street and slicks at the track also. No signs of wear... fingers crossed.
If your car is 100% stock add a nice exhaust (full system with header) and air filter for a nice boost in power and top end breathing.
As Icemark said... you don't really need it in a 100% stock car unless you are doing some serious performance driving on the track or back roads.
KAAZ setups are about $1k BTW...... and 99% of the people on this board don't need them.

i just bought a piece of crap 86 sport, but it had a nice exhaust system on it, headers back if i remember correctly and had aftermarket clutch and flywheel and a turboII tranny, unfortunately it stalled while my friend was driving it and wouldnt start back up. went to check on it the next morn, and it was towed. so that sux. im not goin to waste $800 on a new exhasut system for my NA, when im planing on doing a TII swap in the next month or 2 and i would have to replace the exhaust with something different and bigger. thats why i was looking at an lsd.
so i guess my best route would be to go with an S4 lsd, or get a TII rear end like u. did u bring it to a shop and that was the installation price, or did u do it yourself?

well if you're doing a tII swap, why don't u put in the entire tII tranny and rear end setup. It's stronger and will handle more power than the n/a tranny will, and you can do it all at once.
