Will this iron work?

So I am finally about to start my build and while doing a final clean on my parts I noticed that my rear iron has a spot on the inner water seal groove with some pitting. After searching both here and other forums I have found a lot of mixed information. According to a lot of people, it is safe to epoxy the issue, and place a side seal over the damaged area (or Karack's seal savers if he gets them ready soon). What do you guys think? It is an area that is roughly 1" long and the rest of the groove looks great, theres just this one problem area.

im going to get flamed for telling you this but if you are on a budget epoxy it, and sand it down to as close to level with the surrounding metal as possible. if you arent on a budget and want to do it RIGHT, toss it.

get some devcon epoxy putty. slather it on there and then use a file to clean it up. as long as you apply it properly, it will hold..

on the other hand, irons are relatively easy to find and would probably would be the same price as buying devcon (@50$ a tube)

if the wall thickness is over 2mm then i think you're worried over nothing. i have never seen a thicker wall break and though corroded that wall still looks plenty thick to me according to those pictures.

The very worst spot (about 1/2mm long) is 2.20mm thick. The rest of the area is substantially thicker than that.

Do it right! toss the iron. It's time consuming to re-do everything once it starts leaking.

Have it tig welded on the coolant passage side to reinforce. Clean the entire area/passage with a wire brush or media blasting, then let them weld in a good size bead of material on the OUTSIDE of that wall to reinforce it. Then simply file the weld down level with the rest of the iron and you're good to go. Such a repair will take a qualified welder about 15 minutes and should cost less than $50.
