Will an Eclipse Turbo work on my NA?

Ok, before you all laugh.. Bear with me.. I got a turbo off a 1st gen eclipse for free. I planned on turboing my car next summer with a stock TII turbo and manifold. My question is, can I use this turbo, or is it too small? I mean, technically, I know its possible to use it. But will I over spin the turbine blades? I plan on running an intercooled 5-8 psi of boost into my N/A engine with 68k miles. The thing I like about this small of a turbo is that, if I can get it to work, it's perfect for my uses. Small, light, VERY fast spooling turbo with low boost pressure so as not to blow my engine. What's everyones thought on this?

Thumbs down You crazy..

Dude no way that turbo is way too small, just use the stock T2 turbo, it spooled on my friends GXL faster than my friends GST eclipse.

yeah, i think vtekeater is right...but then again, the stock 2nd gen DSM's run about 13-14 psi STOCK. so if you're running 5-8 psi and its properly intercooled, the turbo would be able to handle it, but i'm not sure about its applications on the rex

Ummm that's helpful... I really don't think you know what you're talking about. The stock GST boosts 12 psi I think, and when the boost is jacked up to 15 psi it will fall on it's face around 6k rpms. With it properly intercooled I am sure it will hold 5psi if not 8psi, and will probably hit fool boost @ 2500 rpm :p . BTW we compared his turbo with my stock T2 turbo compressor (we are roomates) and it looked almost identical, the only difference being the size of the intake hole. My question, what kind of turbo is the stock T2 turbo? This turbo is a T25, and that's what I thought the stock T2 turbo was.

Angry I do know what I'm talking about

Hey man I'm just trying to help you out, and dont tell me I dont know what I'm talking about, who else on this forum turboed their n/a?? cept for me??
And when I said the turbo is too small I meant it doesnt flow
enough air for a rotory motor, plus with that eclipse turbo when you redline it at 8k the turbo will spin so fast that it might just break the damn fins.
Oh and btw on my friends GXL that I turboed he hits 7 psi under 3,000rpms in 1st gear, so dont tell me it has to much lag.

hmmmmmm, in a word, NO. the first thing that you have to consider before you worry about spooling and flow and such is if this turbo can physically mount up to a stock T2 exh manifold, which it cant. Simply to get this thing on your car you would have to have custom flanges and most likely a custom exhaust manifold, have you ever looked at how that turbo is mounted on the eclipse? it goes straight down from the exhaust manifold to the downpipe. On a rotary turbo the flange that bolts to the manifold is perpindicular to the exhaust hookups. It would cost more money to get all that **** custom fabricated than it would to just buy a stock RX7 hitachi turbo and appropriate manifolds and exhaust components

Hey how difficult was it to put that turbo install in the GXL? I have a GXL & might do it if its not too much trouble. Either that or NOS

Thumbs up

It's not that hard except for making the adapter wich just takes a little time to make. The rest is all stock T2 stuff.

Ok.. maybe you misunderstood my question. Maybe you took me for a complete ******* dumbass.. I KNOW it wont bolt up. The Eclipse is front wheel drive, that kinda gives it away right there... I know I'll have to costom fab an adapter to make it bolt up. I plan on using a stock TII manifold and adapt it to fit the turbo, and adapt the turbo to fit a costom down pipe all the way back to my cat-back. And I know it'll boost 5-10 psi, and I know it'll spool just about at idle... So my question is... Will it boost 5-10 psi all the way through 7k rpms based on its .48 compressor A/R. Or will will the turbo overspin and eat itself alive while the wastegate was screaming from 4k rpms.
