will an after-market ECU retain or delete the OBD-I diagnostics stuff???

What OBD-I stuff. I've never heard of such a thing!

We don't have any diagnostics other than the CEL method.

I thought there was a redicluously expensive tester mazda made. Also, were'nt our cars OBD-0, or something like that?

Yeah the factory has a tester for dealers. Don't see many of us going there though

I just meant that a checker existed.
BTW, i found it - http://mazdatrix.com/toolmisc.htm most of the way down the page
It turns out its just a premade tester for checking codes since s4's cant do the CEL method

aftermarket ecus, are 20x's better than stock. means no searching for codes or nothing like that, they tell you on the screen which sensors work/calibrated and which are not... ( atleast MT)...
