Wide front + 9" rims = Look wierd??

Hey Guys,

Would an FC look wierd with 30mm wide guards in the front only, with 17x9 +35mm wheels all around with 255 semi slicks?

I'm happy about the fitment of 9" rims in the back. The wheel fitment thread is invaluable! I know 8s in the front is fine, but the above notion crossed my mind and I got curious.

I guess i'm a just a little concerned about how wierd it would look, having pumped gaurds in the front only, and if the same wheel specs front and back would look odd too!

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Christian.

Thanks. I found some pics over in the Lounge. It's difficult to find info on exactly what he's done. Pics look OK though.

I highly doubt that you'll get those wheels to fit up front without a spacer. For an 8" wide wheel you'd be pretty close to the struts with a 35mm offset, and you'll have another 1/2" (12.7mm) of wheel sticking out towards the strut, so it's probably not going to fit. A better offset for the front would be more like 20mm. Running different offset wheels is one option if you can find the same wheels in both offsets, otherwise a 1/2" or 15mm spacer would be your best bet, and that way you could rotate tires easily too.

As for the look of it, I'd think it'd look ok. It will probably be noticable to those familiar with the FC, but otherwise it should be fine.

most likely your gonna need a spacer on your 9" wide rimes. i'm running 8" wide on all four corners and i was rubbing on the shocks.

DOH!! I'd completely forgotten to take the extra inch width into consideration!!

I'm not too keen on spacers that big, but the wheels are available in +22, +35 & +45 so maybe the +22 up front would do the trick. Should break out the tape measure one day.

Anyway, It's just an idea at this point.

Thanks.

I'm running a 17x10 +45 in the rear and the minimum spacer I need is 7mm. But I'm ordering a spacer set from GP Sports that is adjustable from 5mm to 30mm. That way when I go widebody I have the adjustability.

so is a 18x9.5 capable of fitting in the rear of a fc? and if so, what offset is needed to make it fit correctly?

18x9 front and 18x10 rear fit just fine without any modification.

What's your offsets?

Oh, we'd better not turn this into a duplicate of the fitment thread... There's already a stack of info in there.

Search for threads started by me in the RX-7 Audio/Visual section. I run 17x9 +15 in front with 245/40/17 tires. I'd like to run ~+25 offset wheels though, so I could tuck 255s under the front fenders. Corksport overfenders btw. I don't care about the lack of OEM fitment (lines aren't PERFECT), because my car's not really a show car.

My ideal wheel setup would be 17x9, +25 offset in front with 255s and 17x10.5 +32 offset with 285s (with rolled/pulled rear fenders). The AutoRND showwcase FC has wide front fenders with rolled rear fenders, and put together with the body kit it has I think it looks just great.

I'd post a pic but where I am in Japan, ISDN is the only internet available for now.

I run enkei's RPF1's 17x9 +22, and 17x10 +18 255/40/17 tires. My fronts have a panspeed overfenders which are maybe a 15mm extra front. I run a 5mm spacer for the fronts to clear the coilover. The rears stick out about a inch so about 20-25mm. I have some 30mm rear fenders coming in. Im sure with alittle different offset for the rears, they would fit with either alittle roll, or no roll at all. For the front, you would have to run some decent camber, or a slim tire to not have to roll the fronts. Ill take some pics here soon.

my rear 17x10s are +45 and I just used a 10mm spacer to clear everything. It fits flush with the body lines now. When the +30 fenders get here I'll be using a bit bigger spacer to adjust accordingly.

ok...most poeple dont keep in mind, that when you give advice on what will fit on an fc, and what wont...that alot of you have coil-overs, which changes everything! the biggest wheel/tire combo ive been able to fit up front on my car is a 17x8 35 offset w/ 225/40zr17 ... the tire is about 1mm away from the spring perch ..... w/ coil-overs, i could easily add an extra inch or 2 to the width of the wheel, and a much wider tire.

i just wanted to make clear, for the people that are taking all these statements into account, that they make sure the person they are getting advice from doesnt have coil-overs, OR that the person taking the advice has coil-overs as well

Turbo23, those are the wheels I want and everything!!! Thanks for the pics and the advice. I'm pretty sure I'd stick with the 9" in the back as well, and the +35 seems to do the trick for others.

I don't suppose there's a chance of a pic showing the full length of the car from a front/side angle to show the guards?

Good tip vipers!! I'll have coil overs before doing this. The will be a street registered track car!!
