why: wet plugs
Hi everybody, I have a 86 RX7 that won't start. I was told that the injectors were not firing. I pulled the plugs and the bttom plugs were wet but the top plugs were dry. If the plugs are wet, doesn't that mean the injectors are fring? Are the top injectors controlled separately from the bottom?
Help

it may be flooded...who told u the injectors are not firing?.....if anything the spark plugs are not firing.....try this...take all 4 plugs out, pull the EGI fuse(in the main fuse box) and make sure the wires are no where near the spark plug holes, crank the car 5-10 seconds then replace with new plugs, put back egi fuse and make sure the wires match up with the right plugs.....that SHOULD do the trick..if this happenes alot....u might have injector problems....its leaking or something...
ohh yeah..welcome to the club
edit: i hate slow computer/connection

The engine died while I was cruising along in 5th gear so I had it towed to the closest garage. The mechanic found a open connection but after fixing the connection the car still won't start. The guy said he didn't know much about the car so I had it towed home. The mechanic said he thought the injectors weren't firing. If its flooded, shouldn't all of the plugs be wet ( with gas).

the leading plugs are almost directly in the combustion chamber so they will be easy to tell if it is flooded, the trailing are setback with a fire hole that sets them about 1/2" away from the combustion chamber, fuel can't get at the trailing plug very easily so they usually are dry.
An open connection? Please elaborate.
More then likely the sudden stall caused your engine to flood, you need to run the unflooding procedures (I advice using the ATF trick that's in the FAQ).
If this does not work then start at the beginning for all internal combustion engines, Fuel, Air, Spark, Compression.
Is your engine getting spark? Have you checked this?
Are you certain the plugs were wet from fuel?
Have you done a compression check? Please check out www.rotaryresurrection.com under tech for help on doing the compression check.

The other day my engine was flooded so badly, it didnt start by using the unflodding procedere ( i didnt use the atf trick), i cleaned the plugs three times, and i made sure i shut off the fuel pump with my cut off switch. She still refuse to start. The only way i got it to start is, i asked my friend to push my car with my dad, and i jumped it at 2 gear with the fuel pump still off. My buddy said he saw lots of smoke come out. but the car did not start. So he pushed me again to it up to 25 k, and i jumped it again, with the fuel pump on this time, it started right away. This time my budy said there was black smoke coming out of it for a few seconds. Just thought i share cus unflodding is a b#$ch.

It should be the first line on the owners manual.
It should have been a removable sticker on the steeringwheel of every RX-7 off the factory floor.
In other words, I like that line
flooded????????
I had a friend do the flooded engine routine. Actually, we tried the ATF method 3 times. I'm getting really good spark and I can smell gas. Can the upper injectors not get a signal to fire while the bottom injectors fire properly? I'm not ready to call the tow truck, yet, but there is only so much that can be done at the house. Anybody have any ideas????????????????/
well the atf trick hardly ever worked for me as easy as people say.... when my car gets flooded which is rarely what i do is....
1. pull the fuel pump plug out of its harness (under the dashboard, drivers side, yellow plug attatched to the steering column)
2. then crank the car, car will start after a short period of time then burn all the fuel thats in the chambers and stall out
3. replace the plug into the harness under dashboard
4. car fires right up on the next try

The secondary fuel injectors only fire after 3800RPM, so they will not fire on startup.
I would try doing a push start, that's one of the easiest ways to start a rotary engine.
Also, what was that open connection?

It runs, it runs........I can't beleive it. It was actually flooded. I tried 6,7,8 times with the atf and then a couple of times with MMO oil and then I pulled the pump wire like CWSTTU said..........and it runs.......slow at first, with lots of smoke but it actualll runs.
thanks to everybody that helped.
