why god why?

I've took everything off of the intercooler as far as piping, tid, heat shield, blov, etc... checked everthing and then reconnected all the piping and made sure there was no leaks, however I still get little boost. maybe 1 or 2 psi. I have a 3" down pipe, I was woundering if I had an exhaust leak would it sound like tatatatatatatat or is that just because I don't have any cats? I just don't know what exhaust leak sounds like and my engine right around the manifold has a tatatatatatatat sound comming from it. Thanks.

oh yeah and also what would make a sound like a loud wistle when I let off the gas? Its not my bov because I had my girlfriend rev the engine while I listend and it was right around the front of the engine. Thanks.

I got my money on a dead turbo more than likely. Sounds like what happened to me, but I couldn't get ANY positive pressure.

the next most logical thing to do is probably going to be to pull the turbo and examine the housing. oh before you do all that check to make sure the wastegate isnt stuck! it can happen. just take the heat shield off and follow the vacuum line from your profec to the turbo. then make sure the rod on the actuator is still connected to the door. temporarily disconnect the rod from the door and use a channel locks or vice grips to pull the rod away from the actuator valve. should move freely but will be kinda hard to pull or push depending on what angle you have ahold of the rod.

I totaly removed my profec today to make sure it wasn't that causing the boost issues. Needless to say that was not the problem.

either clogged exhaust or the turbine on the exhaust side of the turbo went buh-bye. It happens, we melted the exhaust turbine on the yellow car after 5 laps on Buttonwillow raceway.

I wish someone would come down to lake charles and tell me what is wrong with my turbo. Its a brand new turbo that when put on the car never got any boost so I realy don't think its a bad turbo unless it was bad from the start and what is the likely hood of that?

Check the little flapper door that is IN the exhuast manifold. NOT the wastegate. But the thing that is supposed to stay closed while the car is cold so that you can't boost as much.

Maybe it is stuck closed, and clogging your exhaust up. It is the other actuator/rod, that goes to the turbo manifold, and not the turbine houseing.

I would put my money on that!

NO way it is a blown exhaust gasket he would hear that quite loudly in the cabin! He didn't mention anything about excessive noise!

hondahater,
Have you taken off the Turbo to give a thorough inspection and take pics and post them so that we can give you out honest opinions on it! that is mostlikely your best route. At this stage it is mostly guessing.

yeah there really isn't that much noice at all I don't think its exhaust leak. I really am dreading taking the turbo out but I would have had to do it anyways to put a new one on so maybe this week I will take off the turbo and take some pics so yall can see whats up with it. Thanks for the replies guys it's great to see people helping a fellow rx7 nut out!!

cory, how can I tell if that thing is closed with the turbo on? is there anyway to tell? Thanks.

It's operates pretty much like the wastegate, and there is a C clip that holds it movement rod onto the door's arm. But if you take the turbo off, you will know if it is open/close, because if it is closed, then it will be sticking out, so that when the turbo is on. It is touching it, because the exhaust houseing of the turbo is tang devided with one side that is a little smaller than the other. And it just covers up one of the holes so that the car won't boost as much when it is cold.
