Why do verts weigh more?

I have found some really great info here, but my question seems to be a little more specific than what has been covered before.

Why do verts weight more? Where exactly does the extra couple hundred pounds come from?

I am looking in to stripping an FC. I mean everything gone but a steering wheel and a seat. This includes cutting up the doors and leaving only the skin, same thing with the hood and trunk. (or rear glass if it s coupe) It will have a cage installed for safety and support.
the top = gone.
interior = gone
P/S = gone
A/C = gone
stereo = gone
sound deadening = gone
Heater, fans and piping = gone
Everything not needed to make the car move = gone

So if you strip a coupe and a vert, will the weight difference still be there?

the added chassis strengthening that is required since there is no solid roof. So some parts of the chassis area are reinforced, otherwise the car would be flimsy.

The motors don't weight 100 pounds. Maybe 30lbs at tops (funny pun...get it) estimating since I just pulled two out like a week ago.

if you are stripping a vert, you can get it down to around 2200 lbs, however coupes usually are pretty tough to get under 2400lbs.

The majority of the extra weight on verts is from the roll bar assembly built into the rear top section.

On coupes that rear glass is very heavy.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever weighed the roll bar assembly?

The chasis is part of it too, as mentioned. A vert chasis needs to weigh more than a coupe chasis to have the same stiffness. Kinda like steel plate vs. I-beam (but not that extreme).

Seems like the vert chassis is lighter than the coupe's...

I think that might be more than a bit deceptive, as that's not exactly comparing bare chassis or equal setups, and that'll be for a vert with NO ROOF, so not exactly usable in everyday life. You might as well compare it to a coupe with no hatch and no side windows.

If you were really to strip down a coupe to the absolute bare essentials (includes a hatch, but with lexan in place of glass) it'd be in the 2000lb range, as that's what I've seen reported as approximate no cage E Production dry weights.

From: Rancho Cucamonga Ca,
Henry at Mazdatrix told me that their convertible track car weighs 2200, but had to get the chassis acid dipped twice to get it that low, it also has no top at all.
