Why can 89 Na's run 8k, but 89 T2 says 7k?

Hey, whats up all, Just had a curious question. I saw an 89 NA and it redlines at about 8k, My 89 T2 redlines at 7k, whats up with that? are they diffenent blocks, what keeps my 89 from having that high redline, is it the turbo?

Thanks,
Jesse A.

becuase the stock turbo is a big restriction in the exhaust. My power and boost starts droping off around 6500.

with a bigger turbo and the right fueling the motor should be good for 8 grand, cause it's got lighter rotors and other improvments that the 89+ N/As have.

yep, 9.0 :1 and 8 lbs of boost for the turbo vs 9.7:1 NA compression

The n/a blocks have bigger ports and more port timing. And they dont have a turbo getting in the way of the exhaust.

I had it on the parts trader for sale, I was just going to see what kinda reply's i had, I got a few, I was going to go buy a third gen, but changed my mind. This car is too nice to get rid of ,

Thanks for the info, so how i understand it, if i get a To4E or 60-1 running 8k will still be a bad idea? cause the ports are smaller?

Well...

I think it's a combo of things. The faster the engine spins, the faster it draws in air=the more boost a turbo is putting on the engine. More boost=more pressure. That can be bad. Also, if you run a turbo up to red line, you have a good chance of leaning the car out, and as we discussed earlier, bad things happen when the car runs lean...

like I said you need the right fueling too. you'd probably need a slight street port too, otherwise power might still drop off. you'd want a full T04 to get rid of the stock exhuast side. which is NOT cheap, and is a big step which requires lots of things.

Thanks, Yea, ill be getting an AIC, i have the walbro fuel pump, and the Fcon to max out my stock injectors, I saw a additional injector plate that looked nice that fits right where the top intake manifold attaches to the bottom intake manifold, I have a few engines lying around, I should be able to use my 550cc' injectors, 2 of those should give me pleanty of fuel

thanks again,
Jesse
