Whit smoke=rebuild????

I have looked threw the forum for the answer. I have a 87 turbo II 110k on motor. I have just bought it about 3 months ago and have noticed white smoke at start up but goes away after it reaches normal running temp. It also smoke when I shift. That would mean when the turbo disengages. I just would like to know if you guys think its time for a rebuild? Several MODs have taken place nothing serious I just put on new exhaust (no cats) and am replacing the air pump. I got rid of the stock air box and have put on a fcd and new fuel pump. It still runs like a bat out of hell just get the anoying white smoke occasionally. It also has a tendesy to sit for a while if that has anything to do with it. Ive heard turbo and Ive heard water seals are bad. any other suggestions?

take your intercooler off and check it for oil inside, perhaps the seals on your turbo are all that's going, if no oil in there, chances are your oil rings are going on the rotors, which means rebuild, but it doesn't sound too severe yet so you can probably get some life out of it still.

Oh, whoops, hahaha, to me my oil rings looked white and not blue, so it's your call, though it could be coolant rings as well, sorry

White smoke = coolant = rebuild.

Read about the Sport Compact Car Project RX7 in the mag or website. Same white smoke = damaged water seal and water/coolant is reaching the combustion chamber.

Sorry dude.

You know you sure would think it would smell like coolant but it doesnt. It smells like its running a little rich. I have notice that my buzzer of daeth has gone off which meant that my coolant level is low But I have plenty in the over flow. no other simptoms

Isn't there a simple test involving bubbles in the coolant while engine is running? Is this only applicable to boingers? Anyway...with water neck cap off, start car, bring to normal temperature. Look for bubbles after thermostat open up. This is actually a test for a blown head gasket passing combustion gasses into the coolant on a boinger, but should still work in theory, right? Anybody?
