Whistling sound under full throttle? Does anyone elses n/a do this?
Seems like the more i mod my 90, the more the engine whistles under full throttle. It almost sounds like a turbo spooling up. I checked for vaccum leaks, but found none. The car has great driveablitly, gas milage etc, and reads full rich under full throttle. Is this just the air pump sucking more air than normal or what?
Does anyone else's car do this?

mine does that when I let off the throttle
sounds just like a turbo spooling up
but since my car has no tip on the muffler right now and the muff is busted I can not tell how it sounds under full throttle

My acv makes a whistling sound occasionaly, I'm not sure why... On your car, it sounds like an intake leak somewhere, or just the sucking noise a cone filter makes. I have a little cone filter for the air pump, and my friends all think my car is turbocharged

Mine does that...
I think what it is is the gearing in the car. The more aggresive the cut on gears, the whinier they get. Mine sound like their bloody straight cut.
As for my engine, mine makes that sound, and goddamn, I love it. The orchestra that is the rotary.

Compression Test and ATF?
I had the same problem a while back. I would sit in it and rev it, it would make the whistling noise every time I hit the gas. I could hear it even when I was driving...I couldn't figure it out...I also noticed a decrease in power....the exhaust shop said that my Primary cat was clogged up, but it couldn't have been that because I had that replaced less than a year before. Well, even though I knew it wasn't the cat, I thought maybe it was coming from somewhere else in the exhaust system. So I ripped the stock system out and opened it up. Presilenced race pipe and a custom 2.5" dual cat back with glasspacks. Well, needless to say, I didn't hear the whistle anymore, so I figured maybe the problem solved its self...... 3 days later the rear apex seal blew. After thinking about it, I came up with the conclusion that maybe the seal cracked or something happened to it which would allow a little air to escape and it would whistle....I could be wrong, but thats what I came up with.

Its definatly not the tranny. If the tranny is making noise, chances are, its the bearings.
My noise is only there under load. Light throttle and decel its gone, but put just a little pressure on it, and it starts. Once the VDI hits, its even more noticable. Thats when it starts sounding like its starting to "spool" like my 3rd gen.
I've gone over every inch of vaccum lines, to gaskets. Wasted 3 cans of starting fluid, but nothing.
Could'nt be the cats because i have none.
Thing runs strong though.
