whistle smoke shut off??

Unhappy whistle smoke shut off??

well today i finally put my car back together after a month and a half and when i start it smoke comes out then i hear some sort of high pitch whistling sound it won't keep idle and it won't stop smoking and the smoke doesn't smell like coolant what could it be someone help me please! =(

the search isn't working...im sure i hooked everything up right and it's an 87 n/a it runs really rough when im holding the gas in and starts to whistle above 2k..

ok...after starting it alot...the smoking stopped now i need to fix the whistling..and idling..the sound is coming from the front of the engine near the manifold

whistle sounds like a vac leak (they scream like mad if they are from a vac line port, otherwise they are mellow if they are a gasket). Double check all the vac nipples, theres many.

could a vacuum leak cause the car to smoke alot? not enough mixture so it just burns alot of gas?

I wouldn't think so, the smoke can happen when these cars sit for awhile, once you get it to idle properly it should stop after awhile.

Its a vac leak, more specifically I bet it is coming from in between the manifolds. Either the LIM -> UIM, or UIM-> Plenum. Make sure you scraped all the old gasket material off (ALL !!) before you install new gaskets. I had the exact same problem, took me forever to figure out what it was.

cool thanks alot guys, i found this little thing broken that is right under the intake pipe that goes to the throttle body, it looks like a little green filter or something? does anyone know what it is called?
