Unhappy Where is the power??

I am new to this so I need some help. I picked up my '87 Turbo II a few weeks ago and it seems to be lacking power. It has a full RB exhaust from the turbo back, the HKS intake and an FCD. Bottom line is it is not as fast as it should be. It seems to be losing power somewhere and I can't figure out where. It does need a new exhaust manifold as the old one is leaking (pretty badly) and the idle is significantly lopey. With 85,000 miles on it, could it just be due for new plugs and wires or could it be the leakey manifold? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a newcomer to the RX-7. Thanks.

Do a "quickie" compression test - use search keyword "compression test".&nbsp It could be the engine is blown...

quite possible... also it could have quite a bit of carbon buildup. Get a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil for your oil and gas. Pour them in and see if it helps. Try the ATF trick if it doesnt. Check your plugs, compression, how's your boost, BTW? check the timing.

I'd say start with the full 60K mile service/tuneup and then go from there. Most likely it's something simple.

PLUGS & WIRES can make a big differance -
Std PLUGS ar only good for 4-6Kmi and the Platniums are good 15-20Kmi
Wires should be replaced every 30-50Kmi
Lopey Idle can be Bad plugs or a BAD/STUCK apex seal.

I've blown engines at 60k miles.
I've seen blown engines at 30k miles.
This is what happens when people do mods to their car without knowing the consequences; the full exhaust system is a big no-no without an upgrade fuel pump and/or checking fuel pump voltage.

Re:Where is the power

Replace the leaky manifold,, your turbos depend on exhaust pressure to make boost.
