Where to get porting done

Im looking for a place to do a port job for me. Im thinking either a street port. Would it be necissary to have a half bridge done if Im only looking to run a BNR Stage 3 and an Rtek 1.8. Eventually I will go larger turbo and maybe stand alone, so thats why Im sorta wanting a half bridge. Plus the ricer in me likes the idle Im not too worried about losing a bit on the bottom end as long as it will pull mid-top. So back to the main question. Anybody know of a good place to send them to? Preferably in either the east or south, no northwest or anything like that if I can help it. Want it to be semi local to Alabama.

Also, about lapping irons. Everything Ive heard about this, is that lapping the irons takes off the outer most layer, forget what its made of. Isnt removing that layer bad, since itll make it wear out faster? Cause it looks like most reputable rebuild places do this when rebuilding. If I rebuild and dont see any major gouges or scratches, can I get away without doing any lapping or no?

I think the shop I'm about to refer is abit out of your range. The shop JR Fabrication and Performance is building my Cosmo 13B-RE as of now and two other FC's one with a 13B-REW and the other with an RE. I have seen the shops other projects and theyre built with quality labor. Not sure if this is helpful to you but I tried just give J.R. a call (the number in my signature), and also I beleve he has a buddy in Alabama that works on rotaries. I forgot what the shop was called though. Anyways good luck with your project!

A bridgeport will not run on the RTek very well, and you don't "need" it since you can make 600+HP on a streetport "easily". However the port will spool some very large turbos and pull like hell over 4K. Myths of lack of low-end are just that. That BNR turbo is too small for a bridgeport.

Lapping is only necessary when the iron is out of spec. And the S4+ irons can only be lapped a few times before the groove for the water o-ring becomes too shallow.

SO for a BNR Stage 3, a mild streetport would be good enough, I plan on running about 12-14psi? Also, if i check my irons and they are out of spec and have them lapped, that wont affect the life of the engine will it? I swear I read somewhere that lapping them messes up the coating on them and they wont last nearly as long. Or did I hear wrong?

I wouldn't run a hybrid turbo on a ported engine, you're going to be choking on that tiny turbine side, even if you opt to have a P trim stuffed in there...

Well Im only running a hybrid for now. Down the road I will be going stand alone and probably a 60-1 turbo or something similar. Im only porting when my engine goes, or if it hasnt gone within a year or so Ill just tear it down anyway and do a full build

I don't think the irons are coated, the inside of the rotor housings are plasma sprayed with chromium or something like that. Lapping the inside of those would remove some or all of the layer.

The lapping and the porting can be done by Pinnapple Racing. I've never had anything done by them ...yet.

One reason I think they might be a good place, is I've recently seen their online site which has videos of different aspects of engine building etc and I think it's a *cool* site.

The irons are nitrided to harden them. The housings are chrome plated.

Anyone who can do a street port can do a bridge port.

yeah, I wasnt sure but i guess like you said, bridge isnt really needed. So why not just go with a street port

Who does bridgeporting? HERE: http://www.pineappleracing.com/ProdSvcs1.html

Also I suspect BDC on the other forum does bridgeporting.

Yeah, BDC definately does bridgeporting. He's on this forum too, just not as much as the other one.

I was actually thinking of doing the same (running halfie with a BNR stage 3) but i guess after reading your post i might have to rethink it..
what do you recccomend to run? nothing outrageous..
what price ranges roughly (including downpipe, wastegate, & exhaust manifold)?

BTW BDC IS THE MAN at half/full bridges.

I've never seen a streetported motor get 600 HP easily. The most I recall is J-rat's, which is 490 using alchy injection. Granted he has more room to go with a better turbo, but its not exactly easy.
A half bridge, from everything I have read (plus talking with Brian/BDC) will help spool the turbo faster at lower rpms. The BNR is definately too small for it though.
