Where to find a replacement throttle body return spring

My throttle body return spring is no longer returning all the way closed, but I can’t find a replacement spring anywhere. If anyone could let me know where I could buy one I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I ran into a similar problem with my oil metering pump. What I did was measure the inner and outer diameters of the spring, noted how many coils it had and then went to McMaster-Carr and searched for the one that came closest. You may have to do some bending and cutting of the legs, but the spring I got for the OMP is still in place and works.

Search for "springs" and select the spring type "torsion"

It turned out it was my throttle cable that was bad, not the TB spring. Here is a reference photo to make it more clear what springs I’m referring to.

Measurements are in inches

Large spring on far left of photo
Wire Diameter: .060
Length: .475
OD: .965

Cam springs on left and middle
Wire diameter: .026
Length: .100
OD: .700

and they’re all torsion springs. Hope this helps

https://www.mcmaster.com/products/torsion-springs/ Here ya go. Order springs as close to the measurements as you find. Each product has a 3D image and exact measurements. The top of the page explains each measurement.

Any chance these springs are the same for FD and if so possibly can post link for the proper large spring on the left? Mine is weakening and not returning fully. I'm having trouble navigating that website, not sure which measurements are more important. Sorry for post resurrection!

My problem didnt end up being the return spring, it was actually the throttle cable that was sticking slightly. If you replace that and the problem persists I can get you some measurements since I’ll be pulling the TB soon to fix the dashpots.

I've replaced my throttle cable, when my throttle sticks open a tiny bit I'm able to turn the throttle back manually to bring it back to a steady idle, which leads me to beleive it just isn't strong enough anymore. I have an FD but thinking springs are similar.

I was accelerating onto the highway, all of a sudden the throttle stuck!

Shifted into neutral and pulled over, my cruise control cable came loose and wedged the throttle open!

So I assumed that the cable needed to be correctly adjusted.

Fast forward to today, replacing my engine, looking over the throttle body I noticed that one of the thin springs that put tension on both the accelerator cable and the cruise control cable was not hooked up where it needed to be!

I put it back in place, but noticed that there was very little tension holding it in place.

I have come to the conclusion that these thin springs loose their tension over 35 years.
So, my fix is to stretch both springs to increase their tension a bit.

What do you think?
Thanks.
