I was thinking the same about the middle size o-ring. I had the smaller ones left over as well. I did use teh large one. I am thinking on one of the Stationary gears???

The brown one is still unknown to me.

The smaller ones seem to fit perfectly on the injector diffuseres .

The medium one does fit on the cas, and I have no idea what that large one goes to. The rear stationary gear has one large oring, but it was not included.

I would really like to find out about the smaller ones.
The brown does not go on the oil pump it is kinda square with 4 bolts

I was thinking that these didn't go on an S5 so I was OK. But the spider has an S4 so that theory is out the window.

the smaller ones are probably spares for the front cover seeing as how many people have a blowout in this critical area. i had 4 of those left over as well and i couldn't figure out what in the world they were for also...

I used the small orings on my injector diffusers. The middle looks like the CAS oring and the right one looks like the rear stationary gear oring. Not sure about the gasket though.

the one on the right looks like it has a groove cut into it, do the S5's use this style of gasket to seal the thermostat?

Small ones are for either the dowels or the oil filter base. The filter base only takes 2 on the 13B, however, with the beehive oil cooler on the 12A, you need 4.

I know that the large one is used. It may be the front cover I am not sure. I remember putting it in an thinking about the strange grooves. but WHERE I can't remember. I am feeling much better about having "leftovers" You know the factory always uses too many parts anyway!!

I lied. Looking back at my baggy of left overs, the large o-ring is still in there. Maybe that is why I can't remember where I put it. HA!

OK. I have no idea where that large one goes, so it did not go in the motor .

The 4 smaller ones are the injector difuser seals, or atleast thats what I and others use them for. I had 4 skinnier and little larger ones that go with the dowel pins. The medium one went on the cas.

Motor is completly back together and will get installed in the car tommorow.... seeing as its 3:30 in the morning... :-D

Alright ya basteges. Just stopped in at MazdaTrix cause I needed two exhaust gaskets to finish my motor rebuild. Asked about the kit and what the parts are

The big o-ring with the grooves is the Cold start somthing er other. IF you don't have on eyou don't need the gasket.
The Middle o-ring is definatly the CAS
The Brown with eith ears is the VDI gasket. If you don't take it apart you don't need it.
Teh small o-rings are for the Air bleeder thingys under your injector and if you try to remove them they usually break so leave them alone if possible AND you'll have four o-rings left over.

I got the diffusors from mazda and they were a thicker almost spacer piece that goes on the bottom of the injector. i didnt look like a o-ring at all and i dont really see how a o-ring can work on the bottom of the injector.

they use the rubber gasket that locks onto the thermostat

The big ring with the grooves in it is for the thermostat. I remember getting the same thing with my water pump. I don't remember seeing anything like that when I removed the cold start. Not in my S5 anyway. But when I first saw the picture, the first thing I remembered was that thermostat.

And the gasket with the ears is for the VDI, like jhammons said Mazdatrix told him. Not sure if S4's have the VDI or not.

Thats right, damn it. I should have thought of that. And S4s do not have a VDI.

I think (I didn't remove mine so I don't really know) the small o-rings go under the diffusers. The Injector have that fat Grommet on the bottom.

I wrote scribbled notes while at Mazdatrix. You may be right about the thermostat being the one wtih the grooves. That is one of the four that i have scribbled on my invoice.

Thanks for the answers, because I was more worried about those things than anything else on the rebuild.
