Question where can I find this tool?

hi, trying to tear down the engine, and the flywheel won't come off with bar. FSM says to use special tool (SST) to pull it out. that looks like a puller to me. but where can I find it. I can't find it in couple of local stores.

any suggestion to find this puller? this is the last thing I need to resolve.

thanks

Check your local Mazda dealer. Unfourtunatly it is not an item that can be rented. If you have a local rotary shop in the area they may let you "borrow" their tool but not likly.

Good luck in your quest!

If you've got the flywheel bolt off, just smack around the outer edge with a mallet, it'll come off. Screw the flywheel pullers!

That's true too... If the large bolt is allready removed just hit the sucker with a mallet. lol.

Make sure the bolt is loose, but leave it on a couple of turns. It would really suck to have the flywheel dropping on the floor, your foot, your head, etc. Then once the flywheel is loose from tapping with a mallet, take off the bolt, and pull of the flywheel.

thanks for all the suggestion. I have tried with pryer bar, and hammer, and no luck. and I spry WD40 also. the damn wheel just won't come off.

so, no puller from auto stores will work, except from dealer?

Yah, Jerry, thanks for the suggestion. I should keep the bolt on to prevent any damage to my toe from the flywheel. :-)

I used a 17" pry bar from sears, putting the tip near where the flywheel/eccentric shaft meet and putting a load of pressure on it. Turned the flywheel, repeat. It popped off after 6 times for me.

That was the only way I got mine to come off after struggling with it for 5 hours using everything from mallets to a propane torch.

hey speaking of, I've been doing a motor swap for a week or two (i had to go out of town... was sposed to be done before i left, and i just got back OUCH) and the first motor separated from the tranny really easily. This motor is a real PITA! I have a motor hanging from the ceiling of my house and I also have a car hanging from the house. How do I get the engine out of the tranny, step by step? Do I need to take any gears off for sure or what? Like i say, the last one came out WAY TO EASY and this one is A BITCH.
