When you custom make something...
hi, im in the process of producing Custom hand made 13B-RE fuel rails. There are a few other people out there selling them but i am making these myself. Im going to order fuel rails by the foot, drill out the holes and tap out the ends for an fittings. All of my fuel rails will be tested for fitment and leaks before sent out to guarantee customer satisfaction but do i need to register them or?... trade mark? im planning on putting my name on them, either "SMP" for slowmotionperformance or... SGRacing. is anyone interested in these fuel rails? im sure someone out there is doing the RE conversion like me and want to upgrade from the Stock Rx7 banjo fuel system. I will sell both Primary and secondary rails for $250 and $10 shipping and handling... Either 550cto720cc 11mm to 14mm injectors... lmk thanks

Personally I bought kg rails for my 13b-RE second hand and cost about half again.

If you want to protect your name / graphic shape so that nobody uses it, then you will need a trademark, which is a farily easy transaction that costs about $700-2,000 depending on which firm you use.

One other thing I forgot is that you may want to incorporate. Here are some advantages:
- If your products cause damage to somebody's car, they sue the corporation rather than you personally. For example, if you have $500 in your corporation, then the most they can sue for is $500. If you don't have a corporation, then they can take your house, car, and anything else that you own if they win their case.
- If you screw up the finances and get the corporation into debt, your personal credit rating is not hurt, and the most anybody can repossess is whatever is on the corporate books as opposed to your personal house, car, etc., that you could lose if not incorporated.
- The corporation gets tax advantages for health care, travel, entertainment, etc., while you personally do not. This could save you thousands of dollars per year.
- It is easier to sell the business or add a partner.
- You can leave it to your family when you die.
There are some caveats and tons of minor details to the above, but you can see a CPA for an official rundown. I would also recommend that you take a business course at your local community college or junior college if you are serious about this.

Seriously, you should look into taking a business class at your local cheapie college. If you are a "non degree seeking student" they usually don't care much about your background.
