This usually happens when the starter is not getting enough voltage....has anyone tried to jump it? If that doesn't work, maybe the starter solenoid is failing.

Does it turn over and click? If it doesn't move it sounds like your battery is dead. The clicking is the starter soleniod.

get out a maglight(or anything else that is heavy) and bang on teh starter, it should start up after enough hits.

the solinoid is located ON the starter..... if the battery is bad, replace it first... cause thats usually the cause of it.... if it still does it after the new battery is in, then its the starter

if the battery were dead, i doubt the solinoid would have the joice to even click. A dead batery, it would still try to turn but make a whimpy effortless sound. i've had the same 'click click click' problem in two vehicles, it's the solenoid. It's easy as hell to take off, turn it in as a core, slap a new one in there, and you should be good to go.

Replace the battery and the starter... It'll cost you about $150 all together and both are good investments...

Have a friend sit in the car, slide under the car, hit the side of the starter with a small ball peen hammer twice as he is cranking it over. It will start right up, take same friend with you to parts store, get new starter, have him hand you the two wrenches in the parking lot while you are changing the starter, get core charge back, and go home and wait one day to replace your next part. I love the car I've owned for less than six months!

I assume this is a single click each time you turn the key to Start.

IF the battery, battery cables and the cables on the starter are on good then try the following to prove that it is the ignition switch.

Pull the TRAIL coil assy up and out of the way. It's only three small nuts to do that.

Under the coil assy you'll find a BLUE connector as shown in an attached jpg.

PUll the Blue connector off the harness and set it aside.

Now get a piece of elect wire about two feet long and bare both ends.

Hold one end on the battery positive post.

With the key OFF and the transimission OUT of gear, touch the other end of that wire to the BLACK/WHITE wire in the other side of the connector you just pulled off.

The starter will turn over. IF it turns over each and every time you jumper that wire b/t the battery positive post and the black/white wire in the harness connector, then your problem is not the starter solenoid nor the starter. It is MOST probable the ignition switch contacts.

Give it a try. It won't take you fifteen minutes of your time to do the above.

If you want to get the car started, you have a manual tranny. Do you know how to jump start the car? Put in 2nd gear, put the clutch in and get the car rolling. When you have some momentum you let the clutch out to engage the transmission and the forward momentum of the car turns the engine over, which turns the alternator and you have sufficient spark to start the engine. Also replacing the battery terminals and terminal clamps is a real good idea to insure that the alternator can charge the battery and charge from the battery can flow to the spark plugs and other electrical componentes.

If you've never jump started a car with a manual tranny you should learn how to do it, comes in handy.

I've heard the clicking your talking about numerous times and it was always from a dead/low battery.
