When building a turbo motor...

I've been trying to search/think of things that I need to do when I build my turbo motor for higher boost +/or compression.

Only thing that comes to mind is either really strong 2mm apex seals, or 3mm apex seals. That + maybe having some of the other seals treated so that they're stronger.

With piston engines you need to do things like stronger head bolts + **** like that. Is there anything that I should put on my future buy list for my turbo motor?

more important than strong cryotreated parts, is the tune.

ive seen some amazing numbers from stock seals, but if you are thinking high high power levels 400+ then probably stud kit should be looked into. better bearings. so on.

What engine are you starting with and what are your goals? What turbo are you using?

if you're running an FC motor, there are several pieces to upgrade to the S5 or FD spec.

oil pressure regulator, corner seal springs, bearings, tension bolts if you have an S4...

if you look you'll find in japan they make big power on a basically new, but blueprinted stock engine.

you only need the fancy bling bling parts if you're running an ECU that doesn't control timing very well, like the haltech/wolf...

I have a jspec turbo motor. I was planning on doing either my S5 NA rotors, or going with rx8 rotors for more compression.

BNR stage 1 or 2 hybrid turbo.
I have the corksport FMIC kit but want to redo the piping.
Water/meth injection
Some kind of porting as well.
Also some kind of good fuel control. Rtek maybe?

I guess I really don't have a power goal. It's more of I'd like to use certain things. But I'd like to know what I need to beef up so that they don't blow.

why hassle with high compression rotors if you only plan on using stage 1 or 2 BNR??
more chance on detonation and thus blowing an engine
why water/meth injection if you are at such "low" power levels?

better off using stock rotors and going stage 3 or 4. less trouble, more power and more reliable if tuned properly...

I know you have a stage 4, but isn't the lag HUGE? That's the only thing keeping me from going up to a 3 or 4.

Water/meth seems like a good idea to me at any power level. These motors are a good amount hotter than piston engines. It will help keep them cooler.

mine is not tuned yet so i run it without boostcontroller and the lag isnt that much more then stock... maybe 5-600rpms slower, but with boostcontroller you can make it spool a bit faster.

and if you are pushing the car, you NEVER get under those rpms anyway if you shift properly

water/meth injection is indeed a great way to keep them cool but i would say you probably won't need it unless you want to run more then 14psi or with a massive turbo.
but with the turbo's of your choice, that isn't probably the case...

if you would do it to decrease intake temps for slightly more power, then you are better off using a slightly bigger turbo then taking the chance with AI for "only 350hp"

Ah yeah, that's true.

Did you do anything to your engine to compensate for the higher boost? I'll have to re-read your build thread.
