wheel spacers
wheel spacers
I have a 87' turbo and i got some rims that are 8.5" wide but they rub on the inside of the tire on the body. Could i just use 5mm spacers i saw on ebay or do somthing elseto correct the problem? Will this move the tire too far out and rub on the opposite side?
IIRC = If I Recall Correctly.
Rolling the fenders wouldn't help, because it sounds like what he's describing is that the wheels are hitting the INSIDE... spacers would make fender rub even worse. Spacers aren't THAT bad as long as you make sure you have proper lugnut thread engagement.

Spacers are fine as long as they are good spacers (hubcentric) and you make sure that the stud length is ok. Alot of people run spacers with no problem. THe problem comes with the $10 pep-boys spacers, where the entire weight of the wheel is supported by the lugs only. Ive heard of all the studs snapping off becuase of this. Spacers done properly is really not much different than running a wheel with a different offset.
It depends what size tires you're running with them.
In the front, anything larger thatn 225 wide is too tight.
If you're talking rears, get some spacers.
BTW, what is the offset on those rims?

I was running some 10inchers in the rear with Undersized 255/s with 2 sets of spacers on each side, not sure what type they were and i would recommend you NOT do this. It causes some REALLY whacky camber issues. After 15k miles i ran the inside of my rear tires completly down to the cords. Not to mention the rear lugs just barely touch the studs, might be able to get 3 turns on them... i ran like this for a long time, but now in hind sight (being 20/20 and all) i recommend against it unless you can get longer studs.
Now doing it the right way? Get the cork sport hub extenders. And, it adds unsprung weight, which is a big deal for n/a cars.

Spacers are illegal at all sactioned tracks and you can be ejected, banned and sometimes fined if you run them there and get caught.
