Wheel offset question..

I know this "should" be in the wheel/tire section..but I never get a response there. ANyway, Im terrible figuring out wheel offsets and such, so I need to ask. Im looking at a set of wheels that are 17x7.5, and in a 45mm offset. Will these fit my FC without any problems? Thanks alot..

a 45MM offset will stick in too close to the suspension using a 7.5" wheel.

To use a 7.5 inch wheel you would want a 35mm offset at the very least (and probably really prefer a 30mm).

... so the larger positive offset places the wheel inboard more.

so what happens when i have 17x9 in the rear and 17x8 in the front on a +23mm offset???

anyone run anything like this?

Well,I guess it's time for my "old calcution" addresses.
The first will show the difference from original offset, eg 16" 7" wide 40mm offset

This is for the diameter of tires...Sorry about the vehicle, but it works:

Better add- 1 mm equals .03937 in. Last time I didn't state the conversion, and one member went bonkers.

That is correct.

+23 9" in rear will fit no problem.
+23 8" in front is tight to the wheel well.  You might have to roll the fender inner edge, depending on tire size you put on that 8" wide.

The fronts can maybe 1/4" max width before thread engagement on the wheel studs gets iffy.

The rears are a lot shorter, so I wouldn't go anything over 3/8".

I always thought the rear lugs were longer on the 4 lug FC...can 1/4 inch spacers be used front and rear on a 4 lug FC with 17X7 at a +40 offset?

18" x 8", +30 to +25 in front should work.
18" x 8", +30 to +20 in rear should work.
18" x 9", +35 to +20 in rear should work.

I always remembered the rears being shorter, but you might be right.

Why you want to run a spacer up front when the offset is correct?  Running a spacer up front just compromises the wheel stud strength - you really should try and avoid spacers if possible.  Those rims will fit without and spacers on your FC no problem.

What about those H&R spacers that have new studs in them to bolt your wheels on to.

Would something like that work and would someone know where to buy those?

thanks again

Ted,

The wheels fit exactly but the center caps will not fit without a spacer, I currently have 1/8th inch spacers up front just to clear the center caps. Do you think I can run 1/4 inchers front and rear just to add a little bit of width and ensure that both wheels are spaced out evenly? I couldn't find ANY other 1/8th inch spacers, we just had 2 in the shop (must have used them on some old school Z's years ago, don't have a full set though). Will 1/4 inchers be safe to use? I have cheesy kyokugen lug nuts
