What's the syptoms of a bad o2 sensor?

I need to know the symptoms of a bad o2 sensor? My car won't idle and it runs rough at low rpm's.I've run a diagnostic on it and it shows the code for the o2 sensor.

Could the o2 sensor be the cause or is it something more?

Thanks
Danny

Oh by the way it's an 88 n/a.

the wire to my o2 sensor was damaged due to the wire laying on the header. didnt find out until i started taking out the a/c but my idle wasnt effected. think my cars running really really rich though.

Well one of the things I can tell is there is a strong fuel smell coming from the exhaust. But don't see any smoke shortly after start up.When starting, it blows out black smoke then goes away after a second or two,but the smell of gas is still there.

It won't have any major effects. All that'll happen is that the ECU won't go into closed-loop operation and fuel consumption when cruising will increase slightly as a result. It won't cause the symptoms you describe.

imo,you probably have a vacuum leak to cause those problems.

Ok would a blown tps cause this because I could never get it to adjust right.Tried the light method and can only get one light all the way through the ranges of the tps.I've tried the dmm method and it just keeps changing.I don't want to pull this engine apart again.I'll get rid of it first.

Well if anyone has any idea just let me know.

Thanks again for the replies.

if its not ported or anything, could be a bad AFM, could be a vac leak... Probably something else tho ;-)
