The oil pressure regularor is the valve screwed into the rear end housing on the driver's side of the engine. I am not sure if the stock unit can be modded with shims. Mazdatrix and others sell a "racing" valve that is easily shimmed for any pressure to over 100 psi. All the shims do is compress the spring that regulates the valve opening pressure. The more the spring is compressed, the more pressure required to unseat the valve.
The stock unit is designed to open at 71 PSI. Unless you are into all out racing with an engine set up for it (increased bearing clearances, etc) you are really wasting your time to mess with this valve. 70PSI oil pressure is plenty. You are aware that there is such a thing as too much pressure aren't you?
