What's this connector for?

This afternoon I swapped out the blower unit in my '90 GXL with used unit that I bough off Ebay. I've been having issues with intermittent blower motor operation. In the attached photo, just behind the glove box light, there is a white 6-pin electrical connector with 4 wires going to both the male and female ends of this connector. I found this connector disconnected with both ends hanging. I reconnected the two hanging ends and turned on and then started the car. I didn't see any wires smoking afterwards and the car drove just fine. Does any know what this connector is for?
