What would YOU do.

I just got back from looking at a 86 GXL. The body is in really good shape, could use some TLC and a bit of touch-up work but, for an 86 it's awesome. No signs of major accidents, the rad support has been replaced once, but all the welds on the 1/4 panels are original. The engine is almost new. 7k on the rebuild, and the guy has a freshly rebuilt tranny that's about to go in. Drives great and the power really comes in at the top end there. The interior on the other hand, has been stipped racer style. It needs everything for the hatch including speakers, covers, all the paneling, the headliner is gone and it needs a sunroof motor(he says he can put in a grey headliner and sunroof motor from a totalled one he bought) There is no radio, and no radio bezzel.

The guy is asking 2500. If I got it I'd be searching for a donor car to get a complete black leather interior out of. Sure I'd take it out if I went to the track, but they require full interior in almost any SCCA class this car would be competent in... I also really don't like that you can see right into the hatch and anything that would be there. Think I have any chance of finding a full interior to swap in, or just the missing pieces out of an oxblood red interiored GSL?

I don't know - $2500 for a stripped 86?
That’s a lot of restoration work.
I’d maybe look around for something closer to what you want. (At least for comparason)

id say thats a rip off. tell him to come down about a grand! a gutted 86 should be a thousand LESS than blue book value. cause thats how much you might spend to put a new interior in!

Yeah about $1500 would be fair, no interior = no resale value...unless you were planning on removing it anyways.....I have tons of grey interior parts if you need them....still $2500 for an 86 is high, i might pay that if it was in excelent condition....

EVERYBODY wants a mint for their junk... Fact is... what that guy has there is JUNK.. offer him 1750 for it, give him your number and tell him to call you after every rice boy has looked at it and walked cause it has no interior.

OR you could take him a price list of everything it needs!!

The radio bezzle is 90 bucks from Mazdatrix (without the demister grilles) and its getting REALLY hard to find a good used one

86's didn't have the hatch covers anyway did they???? I know mine didnt have the hooks for it on the speaker towers.

Sounds like a plan to me. There are also a few other ones I want to look at so I'm gonna let him sit on it for a while. It was blatantly obvious to me that he needed to get rid of it... hopefully he'll crack for a lowball like 1500 especially if I slap him in the face with cold hard cash.
