What turbo will fit 13B n/a best?

Hi everyone!

I'm starting turboing my 88 GTU, so the first question is what turbo would fit best with my streetported 13B n/a, given the target HP range is 280-320 and the fact that the earlier it will spool - the better, 'cause i'm planning doing drifts.

Is Garrett T04S will be a good choice or it is an overkill?

Also whould be good to estimate the size of FMIC.

Any input is highly appreciated!

To4E, an S is way overkill for that. A to4E will also " spool " a lot faster.

As far as the fmic, you don't need anything HUGE like the greddy units, get a good quality core and not some ebay junk.

Toyota Starion?

Just get a cheap eBay intercooler.

Stick with a brand name wastegate or use an internally gated turbo. Best to stick with a brand name BOV but really, if you need to save some money a knockoff can be used. Worst case it that it breaks and you just replace it.

You're going to end up blowing everything up.
You need to start with the fuel control...not the turbo itself.
How do you get parts in Russia???

Thanks for your replies guys!

Maybe it will sound dumb, forgive me that as i never had nothing turbo driven, but what version of T04e will fit best in my case:
Garrett T04E 46 trim Turbo | Garrett T04E 50 trim | Garrett T04E 54 trim Turbo | Garrett T04E 57 trim Turbo | Garrett T04E 60 trim Turbo
they all have a bit different flow maps and i'm not sure how to read them right yet.

Nice to see you around Aaron! Have you got your turbo project running yet?
You believe that those cheap eBay ICs will work just fine?
I've been thinking that it doesn't really matters what kind of BOV you have as long as it is reliable, thanks for confirming.
T04e doesn't have the built in wastegate, right?

Ted, Ukraine is also a former USSR republic, but it is a different country than Russia I know many people getting confused
As for fuel control - i already running MegaSquirt, so it won't be a problem
The only thing i need in terms of electronics is boost controller probably.
How do i get parts here? By post off course I've got tones of different stuff came from US and Japan last 6 years.

57 trim works well, I've also had good success for those numbers on a 50 trim.
In a full t4 trim they aren't available in external wastegate configuration.

don't get anything smaller than a 57 trim. You need to figure out what you are going to do for a turbo manifold.

57 trim. You'll need to run more boost on the 50 to make your numbers.

About 7 years ago. Been running the GT40R now for two years.

Are they as good as the brand name coolers? No...But honestly a bar and plate intercooler is pretty easy to build. The one difference is that the China units might not have turbulators in the end tanks...But then again, neither does the stock Mazda intercooler. I just have a hard time justifying buying a fancy Greddy core when it looks exactly the same as the China copy. Also I'm running a China core on my car and it seems to work as well as any other...

I would suggest buying from a reputable manufacturer, but if money is tight then try the eBay clone. Worst case is that you end up replacing it.

No. You'll need to fab up a manifold if you intend on keeping the NA intakes. If you use the TII manifolds, an off the shelf manifold will work.

Megasquirt has a boost controller. Just add the drive transistor and solenoid.

Hey guys!

Been a long time...

I've put away this turbo build up for some time while playing with my new toy:
http://www.mazdaclub.ua/forum/index....ew_item&CID=84

But now i'm back on the track... Talked to our local turbo shop and they said that T04 is a dinosaur and they don't sell it. Suggested to substitute it with something modern like GT2560... But again, which edition should i get for my application:
GT2560R - 466541-1
GT2560R - 466541-4
GT2560R - 707160-9

I think the last one (56 trim) will fit best, can someone confirm?

lol...

Unfortunately all of Garrett's Gt lineup are geared towards 4 cycls and are not setup to well for lower hp rotaries.

Those are all way too small, the 2 in Gt2 designates the turbine footprint and those are T2 frame turbos; smaller than even a oem rx-7 turbo.

Get a T4 .82 Gt35R

35R? Really? That's way too big for his goals.

I'd say if you're going with a GT series a 3071 or 3076 r, i havent looked much into them though, but i do think they're internally gated.

Either way, you should still be able to get a t04e 57 trim even if it's not local.

No. They're cheap for a reason. Get a real intercooler.
