I have Hylomar for sealing the housing legs but now have second thoughts. What do you guys recommend for sealing the housing legs? Aaron Cake video shows some type Permatex product that is brown/gold in color, but I can't read the name.

Grey RTV. It was formulated to handle pooling oil so I figure it can handle oil splashing on it.

i use the mazda sealant, 8527-77-739, although the grey/black silicons work just as well, its not a very leak prone area.

Permatex Ultra Copper, Permatex Ultra Grey, Permatex "The Right Stuff" Grey, Aviation Sealant, HondaBond, etc. There are a number of products that work. I tend to use the Ultra Copper because it's my standard gasket goo that I use on nearly everything that doesn't spec a specific sealant.

I just purchased some new old stock Hylomar from K-Line and am pleased. See their eBay link below.

K-Line KL1500: Tube Grip With Hylomar Sealant: K-Line Tools: Hylo-Mar | eBay

$9.12 for 100g tube and Tube Grip

I wanted to make a new thread for this because it was such a good deal but unfortunately I can't because of my only 10 post count. So, if anyone else could make a new thread about the Hylomar sale I'm sure lots of people would appreciate it.

Karack >> Why not Ultra Black on FC legs?

As I said above, except for exhaust [Ultra Copper], I use Ultra Black for all RTV purposes.. It's supposed to be their most oil resistant RTV, I believe.

i actually prefer the aviation sealant on aluminum parts but the FD legs have channels milled into them designed for silicone sealant.

Black or grey are the two most universal RTV's from permatex, grey being better for two machined surfaces, and black a bit more oil resistant.

I used Hylomar, no leak so far (200 miles)

The rest of the engine I use mostly just the Prematex Black RTV, like on the front cover and oil pan. cheap and reliable. Have been using these stuff on couple of cars, no leak whatsoever.

I used this stuff on my current engine. Gasket Sealants : Permatex® PermaShield? Fuel Resistant Gasket Dressing & Flange Sealant

I believe it is Permatex's version of Hylomar. Best I can tell it's not leaking after 2 years.

Hylomar tends to stay soft for a very long time, hence why its a perfect application to use on the housing water jacket gaskets. It fills in the voids that the gasket doesn't fill and stays there. When hylomar is pressed between two machined surfaces, it tends to squeeze out leaving very little hylomar left to bond. I would not use it on the housing legs.

Permatex Aviation Form a Gasket is a good choice for this application on the housing legs. I've never heard of anyone having a leak here using this product.

Yes. Hylomar is great for the water seals. For the legs on the housings, I'd use aviation form a gasket. that's my preference.

@woozzom: thank you for your advice on this. reason I even brought this up is due to the fact that everyone has different methods and products they use with regards to the housing legs; and im sure they all work well but i was hoping to know which one is bullet proof.
