what is this? and how important?

its located right beside the intercooler bracket on the drivers side.. any help is appreciated..thanks

That is the purge valve. It is important. The thick hose on the bottom connects to the nipple on the center iron. The top connection goes to a vacuum source and the bottom small nipple connects to a nipple before the throttle body. The vacuum diagram that you need to connect this is in the Factory Service Manual (see FAQ).

what's the use??

what does this thing do? how does it affect HP? how important is it really? how does it affect the engine spceially when I already have a 13b to TII intake conversion for my j-spec s4.

Look it up in the FSM. It's the Mazda equivelant of the PCV. It vents combustion vapours from the crankcase.

Could not having a purge valve ever prevent your car from running? In the Haynes manual it lists it as a possible cause of your car starting and dying.

If the purge valve leaks, it can become a vacuum leak.
