His situation seriously sounds like a tie rod failure, but if neither of his tires are turning that would be total tie rod failure. I couldn't imagine both tie rods snapping at once.
The surest check would be to jack the car up. It wouldn't be hard to see the tie rod snapped.
Also, the highway part he mentioned, sounds like a worn tie-rod issue. I am under the impression that a worn tie-rod is only an inconvienance and not a potential hazard to snap. Could anyone advise me on that?
