what headers are the best?

I have a 87 base non turbo. I am told that headers will help out alot since ive got intake exhaust and high flow fuel. What headers are the best for the money? I am short on cash so i cant spend too much.

RB headers are good quality and "fairly" priced. The paceheaders are cheap and have fitment issues. Mindtrain are expensive but are probably even better because they don't lean out the rear rotors like the other guys. When I upgraded my mindtrain single race header to a true dual exhaust from Mazdatrix, I felt only a slight increase in the top end. I say go with the Mindtrain for peace of mind, though pay big up from.

That's kinda scarey!, I was leaning (no pun intended) towards Mindtrain, with this revelation I think that I'll stay with that decision! I want improvements but not at the sacrifice of releiabilty or engine damage!

Thanks!

I have a RB header on one of my 86's, and if anything, it runs rich. No cats and Dynomax cat-back, so if it were going to run lean, it should. Maybe I'm an isolated case, though.

I picked up a Mindtrain header with street adapter for $250. The quality is incredible and I love the sound and performance. didn't know about the "leaning" issue, but that's good news.

Seriously though I have the Mindtrain Race headers with the street adaptor with an APEX N1 behind it and I am always hearing from people on how great my exhuast sounds, its a very low rumble very low tone and not crazy loud. I love them. My website has MP3's on it but they dont do it justice. Theres also photos of the pieces and the box it ships in.

No Mindtrain does not have a web site

damn 300 plus whatever shipping! i was lookin to spen 200 or less. Who knows maybe i can find some used ones. How about mazdatrix or pacesetter. those are cheaper, but will they give the same performance, and will they hurt the engine at all? thanks for all the suggestions.

I've never heard of the rear rotor running lean on a RB exaust. All i can say is the RB header is the best bang for the buck. Quality is top notch, as with finish. After 35k miles of hard driving, my RB header is turning the pretty purple/stainless steel color. Would stay away from the paceshiter. CJ

I have a Mindtrain header and presilencer. I searched and searched all the threads I could about headers, and decided that Mindtrain was the best to go with. It is VERY sturdy, and it weighs a TON. I think it's a very well constructed product, but I can't tell you anything about performance because I don't have a garage to work in, and it's snowing outside, so it hasn't been installed yet...

By the way, I got mine in "Like New" condition off of Ebay for 150 shipped!!!:p

Okay...I THINK I am set on the Mindtrain headers...but, what is the difference between the race header and the street header. It does seem that the tubes are different...but 2hp's? Will both systems bolt up to their HF cat?

Has anyone compaired the loudness difference between the Mindtrain and the RB headers?

I've heard that all American Spec RX-7s are 6 ports, but I may be wrong.

I think the difference between the race header and the street header is the way it can connect back into the rest of the exhaust. The race one is designed to go to a presilencer, but the street one will go to a catalytic converter, I THINK....

On the racing beat exuast, the road race is a dual outlet. No collector. On the street one, it collects, then goes on to a pre-silencer. CJ

I thought that the N/A's where 6-port, and the T2's where 4 port, but like always dont take my word for it

Correct turbo=4port N/A=6port

I can tell you from experience that Pace Setter SUX, I've had them on my car now for about 8 months now and there all oxidized and 1. look like crap. 2. I had to replace 2 of the studs on my rotor housings becasue the flang isn't thick enough. 3. I bought the pace setter mufflers and they sound like crap between 2-4k rpms like a weed eater.
4. They are unequal length. thats about all the down sides to them
but I paid $119 for them and I was on a budget, right now I got a true dual all the way back with no cats or presilecers just the paceshitter mufflers, if all you want is performance than this isn't a bad way to get more power but if you care about noise then NO. I was short for cash and want to mod my car so I got all the cheapest ****, its the cheapest for a reason, I figure in about another 8 months or so I'll go for mindtrain they look like they got the best quality stuff, most expensive too, notice on those mindtrain there equal lenght and look way cooler than RB or Pace Setter, I'd go with RB if your straped for cash, there good quality and stanless steel
